It is some type of maritime school where the result is some sort of license that Sig said was way above his.

I love how last year he thought if he didn't roll down his window for the cops he couldn't be served.

Ah ok. Yea we are doing the same thing. Same license and program. She is just at a different academy than me.

A little bit but that's just part of becoming a new captain. He just needs to jump in the fire and do it. He'll make a lot of mistakes but that's the best way to learn. I'm sure Phil and Sig made a lot of mistakes when they were new captains but they learned. Josh can be a good captain he just needs to shed those training wheels. If Elliot can do it surely Josh can too.

No, Josh is terrible with the boat. I'm sure the only reason that storyline is still going is because the channel is paying for it. That boat would be sold off and he'd be working at a bowling alley otherwise.

Nah. He would be a deckhand on another boat. He worked on the Hillstrands boat for a season or two.

not being a captain of a ship where big time money is involved

these guys that take over the boats are generally groomed into the job. you can see it with some of the other boats with the current captains and a few of their crew. they know who has it to take the next step and be the master. some of them even say on there how they are waiting for so and so just to take that next step and get in the wheel house.

Yes on tv. And they made him leave to pursue this other TV storyline.

This makes sense to me. Which makes me wonder:

1. How in the world Elliot is a boat captain?
2. How does Jake Anderson think he should be? I love Jake, but he does not seem like a captain at this point.

On another note, why was Andy Hillstrand so upset with Scotty? Seems to me that all Scotty was asking for was some of their quota IF they ever got to that point.

Andy could see that Scotty would one day up and sell the quota out and from under the rest of the family partners. Hard decision but it is business even though a family business. Got to do what is right.

Interesting. I would have thought they could have controlled that. It seemed that Scotty just wanted to captain a ship. Use some TB quota without having the ability to sell it out from under them.

Just a hunch but it always seemed to me that Andy didn't like Scotty coming on board. I think he may not like that Jonathan's kid is the future and not his? Could be wrong but he always seemed a bit put off by it.

That could be. The whole thing is a bit odd. Jonathan sort of rolled over about it. And he is not a roll over kind of guy.

Maybe there was something more sinister going on that Andy and Jonathan know about, but chose not to allow to be aired.

I agree. Jonathan acted like it had to be done. If it was my son and that's all he had done there's no way I'd let my brother fire him. Has to be more to the story.

It seemed to me at the time (and still) that Scotty didn't do a good job of communicating to Andy what he wanted to do. When he brought it up, Andy was stressing the hell out about the Time Bandit being down and trying to figure out a way to get it up and fishing. Along comes Scotty and asks if he can take the quota to another boat and nothing else really.

I think if he had gone to Andy and said something along the lines of "I'll help in whatever capacity I can to get the Time Bandit up and running, just let me know what I can do. But, if it ends up we can't fish at all I might have a good backup plan so we aren't a total bust. I know some guys that want to buy our quota." then he wouldn't have got fired.

Regarding his brother Jonathan...I think Jonathan has to back the play of the Captain of the boat no matter what.

While I don't think Scotty was trying to undermine and do something really bad, I think he did it in a poor way that made it look like he was up to something shady.

I have no clue and just wish he would go away. Such a whiney little bitch all of the time. I really don't know how he got to where he is. Maybe he was good at one point but they haven't covered that, for sure.

He probably talked his way into the captain position on the Ramblin' Rose and had to buy a boat because no one else would hire him.
