I'm in the process of changing my retirement to vanguard and I'm going to set up a 529. The vanguard guy showed me several options and the new york plan looked to be the a good option.

I live in Mississippi.

Does anyone else use this plan?

Pros/cons

TIA

We have our 4 yr old (been in the plan for 2 yrs) and our 18 mth old (been in the plan for 3.5 mths). We picked it because of the low fee rate and it was rated well. The bond funds suck, but with such a long horizon, we are 100% stock.

We started by comparing the morningstar ratings and other online publications to get a top 10, then looked at fund performance and fees, and narrowed it down further.

We have our 16 yr old in the Ohio 529 because it has a great PIMCO high yield bond fund since she is so close to going to college.

We are in TX, so we get no benefit from using the TX ones.

I can try to answer any other questions about NY 529 or others.

La 529 gives you a match on your contributions between 2-14%. Before you even pick your investments. I don't know of any of the states you talked about have a match.
