I need to maintain a website using an admin side but nothing major. I will also need MS Office. I want to pay as little as humanly possible.
Do you have a suggestion? Or a website that you use as a go-to for tech purchases?
TIA

For Windows, you can't go wrong with the Surface line.
Surface 3: $499
Surface Pro 3: $799
For OSX, I'd avoid the MacBook Air for now. Their screens are from 2010 and just don't cut it anymore. If you want a MacBook, I'd go with a MacBook Pro refurbished. The 2014 models with the Haswell chips are as fast as the 2015 models with the Boardwell chips. Broadwell doesn't really offer any noticeable benefit at this time (even battery life is similar).

Just go to best buy and get the bottom of the line laptop that you like and fits you ergonometricly.
Today's laptops have so much power that even the entry level stuff is overkill for what you need.

I'll be following this thread. Need one for my wife's work but want to avoid a POS.
I like the Asus ZenBook at $699 but even that might be much. Requirements are Windows, Office and light weight

This website is making my brain hurt.
But I'll figure it out

Costco has the Acer Aspire R13 for $799 right now. 8gigs. 128SSD (use SD slot for storage). 13.3inch. 2-in-1 (I don't think the screen is removable, but it folds into a thick tablet). advertises 8-hour battery.

Are you sure you need Office? OpenOffice is free, and great.

I work on documents for work and for an organization I'm associated with. From time to time these are collaborative efforts. While it may export from a file extension standpoint, I can't risk losses in formatting between folks who do have MS Office Suite and my own system.
Which has been my experience in the past unfortunately.

I never thought of using an SD card for storage. Are there any drawbacks?
I think you can get 256G for ~$100 bucks, right?

Toshiba $229 - and is STILL overkill for what you need
Dell at $349
Lenovo at $329
I mean, it's really not that involved. Just go there and buy one already.
ETA: the Toshiba has free shipping if you "want to spend as little as possible" - won't even cost you gas.

they can be a little unreliable and aren't as fast as an SD drive, but i haven't had issues with macbook air using 128 gig sds for my two sets of huge files. i just back up often.

Are you in college? If so, check out Microsoft Office 365. If you are in college type in your college e-mail address and if your college offers it, you can download Microsoft Office onto 5 different laptops or computers. It comes with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and I may be forgetting another one, but it's great.

I prefer macs for a lot of what I do, but I wanted a touchscreen to mark up site plans + I got tired of having windows on my macs but need it for various things, so I just bought a pretty sweet Lenovo for $509, no tax (MT) and free shipping. Directly from Lenovo. It's on slickdeals first page. On phone so no link.
8gig ram
8gig SSD for booting os
500gig HD
Flip and touch screen.
I mean $509 total is basically disposable electronics.

The Surface Pro 3 sounds perfect for you. Although the 2015 Dell XPS 13 is pretty salty.
