Damn, that is a good deal. Does anyone know if we can still afford another cheap FA?

Sorry Chad, I didn't see that you posted it in the other thread.

I would say so dealing with the bottom cap guys

His contract is actually more than that but it counts less against the cap because of the vet minimum rule. And yes we can afford to keep signing guys for the minimum as they will replace someone in the top 51 whose salary will only be slightly less (each one will only add between $75,000-150,000 until the 51st guy costs as much as the vet minimum rule).

Looking at the list there are only 3 more guys in the top 51 whose base salary would be lower than the vet minimum rule. I believe Spencer got the max bonus at $80,000. His base is only counting $585,000.
So after those three guys each guy added after would only cost some some of their bonus depending on who they are replacing(between $0-80,000).
So yes you could see quite a few more vet minimum players added but don't expect anyone worth more than that unless we make another move.

The encouraging tidbit of that link was reading that in 2 years of Ryan's defense he got 17 sacks.....Sure that was in 2011 & 2012 in his prime and before injuries the last 2 years, but still encouraging....Hopefully he can find his productive ways again

When you look at saints Roster going in to the draft i would like to see signed an OT-TE-DT-CB that would bring roster up from 69 players to 73 before the draft add the 9 draft picks bring it up to 82 players add 9 top ufda players they at 92 as the top two picks 13th an 31st will be the only late rookie signing an when they sign then by that time should be clear two players to cut to be at camp 90 limit.Sign a cheap vet OT-TE-DT-CB then roster at good depth going into draft.

Nobody at any of those positions coming in for vet minimum would be better than what we already have for depth save for maybe a TE since we only have three.
Unless for some reason a guy like Wilfork agreed to play for the minimum but I don't see it happening.

minimum for Wilfork?
Texans signed NT Vince Wilfork, formerly of the Patriots, to a two-year, $9 million contract.
The deal has $5 million guaranteed. Even at age 33, Wilfork remains one of the NFL's premier run stuffers, grading out as a top-six run-defending 3-4 end in PFF's 2014 grades. Wilfork will kick back to nose tackle under Texans DC Romeo Crennel, who was Wilfork's defensive coordinator in his rookie year (2004). Wilfork fills a huge need on Houston's nose-less defensive line. He should also be an exceptional mentor for sophomore NT Louis Nix.

Yeah that's pretty much where I was going with that. We aren't going to be able to get really good guys for cheap. Even Spencer is going to be a rotational depth player at best.
