Ive always wanted a super hero movie where the hero didnt have to actually be called, out loud, his name. Id think this would be the perfect opportunity for this.

You can have a movie called Ant-Man, without out people being like "Someone call Ant Man" or the villain saying "GET ANTMAN" or the hero saying "Im Ant Man"

Admittedly, I was not an Ant-Man fan as a kid. Is this guy legit? Can he get super big as well as super small?

He can grow up to about 100 feet if I remember correctly, though it looks like this film focuses on his shrinking ability.

This is one of the hardest characters to adapt to the screen, and it seems they are making some right calls. First off, Hank Pym is a thoroughly despicable guy who Marvel put on a shelf for nearly two decades, and tried to pretend didn't exist. The movies are making the right call by making Hank Pym older and have the hero be Scott Lang (also, Paul Rudd... yay!)

Here are your hurdles: Ant-MAn is a pretty silly character. They seem to be dealing with that. In the comics, Pym created Ultron, which they seem to be chucking overboard because Avengers is coming out first. That's a bit of a shame.

But the biggest loss is Janet van Dyne. Wasp is awesome, and a longtime fan favorite. Hope is her daughter, and she'll probably get to be the superhero in this incarnation, but... BOOOO!!! Janet is really cool. And it's a shame that by getting rid of Pym, we have to get rid of his wife that he beat up.

I'm cautiously optimistic, mainly because of Rudd. But I have no real attachment to Ant-Man, who is a pretty goofy character. There's a reason they later made him Goliath.

In my opinion, you just can't have Ant-Man without the Wasp. They go together. Now, I was never a fan of the domestic violence subplot in the comics. I'm glad they are ditching it. Bringing in Scott and Hope is a way to clear the slate of baggage without marring the likability of Ant Man.

There's really no reason Hope can't be EXACTLY like Janet otherwise.

Movie viewers who haven't read the comics will never know the difference.

Oh, and that toy train scene actually made me laugh out loud. That never happens, because, as we have all established, I'm a joyless stick in the mud.

Don't know much about the character, but Googled and found this on another message board.

quote:

Hank Pym is not a wife beater. This bit of character assassination has dogged the character for decades. He hit the Wasp exactly one time. He was in a highly unstable emotional state when he did it. He had never hit her before. He never hit her since. There was no history of physical abuse in their relationship. At all. The writer of that issue of Avengers, wherein the strike took place, a guy named Jim Shooter, has stated that Hank was supposed to have accidentally struck Jan, while throwing his hands up in frustration & despair. The artist, Bob Hall, misinterpreted Shooter's intent for the scene, & turned it into a back handed slap. According to Shooter, there was no time to have the panel re-drawn before the book went to press, therefore, Pym came off looking far worse than Shooter ever wanted.

Now, if we're talking about the Ultimates version of Hank Pym... yeah... that guy's a scumbag. He tried to straight up murder the Wasp in a jealous rage.

Regardless, the movie looks really good.

Did you also miss the part in the comics where Pym creates Ultron and imbues it with his personality? And then Ultron goes off and tries to destroy the world?

When you need a superhero to do something awful and short-sighted, there is Hank Pym.

Ultimate Hank Pym beat his wife, strapped her down and tortured her with ants, and attempted suicide more than once.
