Or maybe a family member?

I need a 3-level fusion. Been having issues since 2010. Had a couple rounds of epidurals with only temporary relief. Think I might pull the trigger at Christmas. Cheers.

My dad had it about 15 years ago. There we some complications and he spent three weeks in the hospital. But once he got over that, he hasn't had any more trouble, other than the damage that was already done.

I had two vertebrae fused in my neck almost 20 years ago. Because I didn't take it easy enough initially I had some problems that resulted in an extended recovery time. However once I fully recovered I haven't had any problems despite being warned by numerous people that I would wind up disabled

Yes, I had a single level about 15 years ago. Thankfully, no issues since and I play a lot of sports still. I went with a titanium insert to lock in in. Very glad I did that.

Yes. 3 level fusion, C-5 to C-7. 2009, Neuromed center Baton Rouge, Dr. Oberlander. Whole process was like a walk in the park. Instant pain relief. I can't imagine having problem/pain as long as you have. Best wishes.

I had the 4,5 and 6 vertebrae in my neck fused in 2003. I remember watching the LSU-Oklahoma national championship game with a neck brace on.

Had to have the surgery, because I couldn't stand the pain/lack of use in my right arm any more.

Outpatient surgery. Recovery was relatively quick, and my pain relief was pretty immediate.

The only thing that I have noticed is that if I get hit on top of my head, it really sends a shock down my spine because of the lack of shock absorption from the two missing discs.

Good luck.

Got a coworker with C4-C5 disc herniation that's about to have surgery (this week, I think). I let you know how he comes through it next week.

about two years ago. 2 disks fused, bone spurs removed, titanium plate. Had to do it, the pain shooting down my arm was real bad.

Has worked out fine, follow doctor's orders.

Now have a cool scar on the front of my neck

Don't do fusion. Get artificial disc replacement.

With my fusion, artificial discs were placed. Neurosurgeon said they were little donut shaped discs and that the center of the disc is filled with a glue that is mixed with your own bone shavings or that from a cadaver.

If you do it, you better do EXACTLY what the doctor tells you to make sure the bone grafts take. Specifically, if you smoke, stop...NOW.

Last thing you want is a failed fusion.

c3-c5 disc replacement surgery in dec.'13. did exactly as doctor ordered for six months and he released me to do what i want in june, 14.
it wasnt that bad. went back to work exactly 3 weeks after surgery. couldn't lift anything for weeks.
fully accept that i will never have the side-to-side head movement that i had pre-surgery. now i have to turn my upper body as well. no big deal. the absence of pain in my left arm and shoulder is worth it!!

I had my c3 and c4 fused after breaking my neck in a car wreck 4 years ago. Haven't had any issues except dull neck pain every now and then. Always wear your seatbelt....

It's funny. I have full side-to-side motion, but I can't look up as much as I was able to pre-surgery. I agree completely with the pain relief, though. Woke up from surgery without that shooting pain into my hands and my elbow no longer felt like it was on fire.

It's 11+ years later, and I do whatever I want with no worries. The lower back is the one that gets me every now and then.

Had the surgery almost 4 years ago. Got a plate on my C5, 6, 7 - if you're doing the same, the scar may run vertical and be pretty visible. That's the worst news. I woke up in recovery virtually pain free. Went home same day without even wearing a neck brace.
Wish I had done the surgery sooner based on how much better I felt after.
