I have three kids and want to make sure I don't lose coverage for them. Isn't there normally a waiting period of some sort before being eligible for a plan? I'm sure I could wait until I get my official offer and ask the company, but I'm a bit nervous and curious about this issue now. TIA.

Depends on your company. At mine, there is a 90 day waiting period. COBRA may be an option until you become eligible.

COBRA for sure. Same insurance you currently have- but it is full price.

Make sure you call and cancel as soon as your new ins starts though

Check with your new company first. When I started with my company 2 years ago the insurance started day 1. Most companies start newbies day 1 unless you are working as a contractor. Contractors usually have the 90 day deal.

That is usually up to the company whether or not you have to wait or get insurance from day one.

You get a 60 or 90 day window for cobra (forget which) in which you don't pay unless you need it. It's a flaw/loophole in the COBRA law.

Every company I've ever worked for had insurance start either Day 1 or the 1st of the month. Also, insurance from the company I was leaving usually lasted until the end of the month.

Definitely ask when you get the offer.

Depending on your new company's measurement and administration periods, you MAY be eligible as soon as the first of the month after the date of your first day.

Generally, companies will make you wait 90 days for insurance to kick in... But there's no law that says they can make you eligible from day 1.
