University of Maryland students seek to rename Byrd Stadium because racism

This talk comes up about the Stephen C. O'Connell Center at UF every now and then. However, there is a decent chance it will get renamed after Billy Donovan soon anyway.

As a AD, Byrd ran off Bear Bryant. For that reason alone, his name shouldn't be on a football stadium.
He was a racist dude, and he did a lot to keep blacks from wearing a Terp uniform. Also, he was pretty much run out of town at the end of his tenure, landing Maryland on probation for egregious violations (of the Sinful Seven, they were likely the lead sinner). Maryland came very close to getting kicked out of the NCAA entirely.
If the students want to change the name, and the proposal is coming from the student body, then shouldn't they get a say? I'm not campaigning to get rid of Byrd, but I don't really care that much if they get rid of the name. And it is worth asking if this is the guy we want to keep honoring.

If that's what Maryland wants to do then I think most won't have issue.
The problem is the next thing you know the media will be hounding every program with the name of a coach on their buildings with a suspect, possibly racist past to change the name. And will absolutely turn it into a witchhunt if they don't (see the Redskins).

The Ole Miss students didn't get a say when we "chose" our new on-field mascot, Rebel the Black Bear.
