Upon further review....Arrested Development season 4 - Update Pg1

So with the news of an AD season 5 in the works it made me think about S4. At the time I didn't want that to even be a thing, and to be honest I went into it in a negative state of mind. I watched it when it came out, but I guess some part of my brain wouldn't let me enjoy it because of the absolute greatness that was 1-3.
So after the thread this week I decided to give it another shot. Maybe time has helped, or just having more of an open mind, but S4 is MUCH better than I remember it being the first time around. I'm currently 7 episodes through the rewatch and I'm surprised at how well I like it. I don't think it touches 1&2, which are some of the best seasons of comedic television I've ever seen, but it is certainly enjoyable and keeps that same sense of humor. I will fully admit that I was wrong about this season upon first viewing.
What are the boards thoughts on 4?

I liked it when I first watched it.
I went in with an open mind though given the stated shooting restraints and all that.

That's how I was the first watch, but like I said I think I went in with the mindset of "there's no way this will live up to the AD name, it can't be good. They should never have made this anyway". Watching it now with a more open mind it's been very enjoyable.
Another reason I think I disliked it the first time was that in 1-3, all of the storylines are for the most part self-contained, for lack of a better phrase. It's mostly all based around their hometown and that's where most things happen. In 4 you've got people going to india, GM in college, people in mexico...it's all over the map. But the humor is the same, which is enjoyable to me.

Yeah, I quit with a few episodes to go. With another season coming I will probably give it another shot.
I think my biggest mistake was binge-watching 1-3 right before Season 4 came out. I hated the format of the new episodes.

Count me in the group that didn't finish it. I will give it another go eventually.

I loved the first 3 seasons. I gave up on season 4 half way through. The chemistry and magic was clearly gone and the format of focusing each episode on one character's point of view did not work for me in the least.

I liked it a lot. I never understood the hate for it but different strokes...

Ok I just finished it up last night. Continuing with my thoughts in the OP, I was pleasantly surprised. The humor is the exact same as 1-3, which is awesome. And as to be expected with an AD rewatch, I picked up a few little jokes that I missed the first time. I originally didn't care for the style of this season (each episode about a character, everything coming together at cinco) but it didn't really bother me this time. And a lot of the stories with other characters will overlap with whatever character-centric episode is on.
Really the biggest gripe I have, which I don't see how anyone could disagree, is with the ending. And when I say ending, I mean like the last 5 seconds.
**SPOILERS***
So michael and george michael find out they're dating the same person. They meet outside her apartment. GM punches his dad in the face and they stand there and stare at each other blankly while the camera shoots from the side. Done, end season. Wtf? If they were absolutely POSITIVE they were having another season it miiiight be tolerable, but since last week was the first we've heard of 5 that doesn't seem like it was a sure thing, and it's not exactly a quick turnaround from the end of 4 to beginning of 5. So the alternative is they had not a clue if they'd make another season (or worse, didn't think they'd ever do one at all), and left it that way. It's pretty irritating that that's the route they went in. Even after S3, even though there were surely unanswered questions, at least we saw michael and GM riding off into the sunset. This one is just a complete wtf ending.
