I argue that The Crow best represents the 1990s in film and music

Honestly, I think The Crow is a near perfect movie that best represents the mood, style, and music of the 1990s.

It was a perfect movie released at the perfect time.

Watch the following youtube clip of The Cure's "Burn", the most famous song from The Crow soundtrack. It's like watching the entire movie in 6 minutes. I may rewatch The Crow tonight just for nostalgia purposes.

I think it was a little ahead of it's time in style. Blade, The Matrix, and others had to take inspiration from that movie.

The movie was just average. The fact that anytime someone mentions this movie they have to talk about the soundtrack proves the movie itself isn't special.

7."Birth Ritual"  Soundgarden
8."State of Love and Trust"  Pearl Jam
9."Overblown"  Mudhoney
10."Waiting for Somebody"  Paul Westerberg

I agree. If we're talking about style points, it was great. But it was an average movie as far as dialogue, acting, etc. I think the story at it's core is great and there is a lot of potential there, as I've stated in past posts.

Wrong.

Tarantino's Pulp Fiction is constantly heralded as a game changer in cinema, and one of the things most celebrated about Tarantino movies are his soundtracks.

You're WAY wrong.

the acting in the Crow is actually painful. Brandon Lee makes keanu reeves look like Daniel day lewis

Mudhoney's Overblown is the single most "grunge" song ever made. I love the story about how they were forwarded $20,000 to record an original song for the soundtrack, so they pocketed the money, recorded this song in a single take in the basement of Mark Arm's mom's house for a couple of hundred bucks, and were done in time for Mark Arm's mom to make them brownies.

See, Nirvana.... THAT'S how you reject mainstream success. Take your big chance and record a song about how your scene is dumb.

Find me one single thread on TD about the soundtracks of Tarantino.

I've never purchased or thought of purchasing a Tarantino soundtrack and yet I own tons of soundtracks.

I actually find some of the Tarantino musical choices to be distracting.

I abhor Stuck in the Middle with You, so I hate "THE" scene.

Still sucks that Brandon Lee had to go.. would he have had a successful career in film following The Crow?

And the Crow may epitomize grunge, but I wouldn't say 90's in general.

Can't Hardly Wait and Empire Records had great 90's soundtracks.

So did Varsity Blues and American Pie.

ETA: and Scream 1 &2 had good soundtracks.

Doesn't mean shite. Fact is that Tarantino is often celebrated as much for his musical selection in his movies as he is for direction.
