OT vets: Dog has fleas for the first time

Our 4 yr old lab/sharpei mix started getting fleas for the first time since we've had her.
We've never seen a single flea on her until Monday night. Then yesterday, my wife is brushing the dog and noticed three fleas jump out. We immediately give her a bath and saw abut two dozen fleas wash away in the tub.
We've given her many baths (usually once every two weeks) and had never seen a flea. We just started using Frontline plus last month just as a precaution with the summer coming up. The only other flea control we used before that were her regular baths with flea&tick shampoo.
Today we haven't seen any fleas but she's still itching like crazy and even developed a raw spot on the inside of her leg.
Anyone have any experience using Frontline, or anyone have any suggestions on what other remedies their are? If this keeps up for another day or two, a visit to the vet is in order.

Go to your vet and get the oral flea . out is like a little treat that the dogs like. Much better for dog then putting poison on their back or flew collar. Expensive but worth it.

Might need to treat your yard. Our cat never went outside ever but had fleas. Come in on your clothes.

comfortis! one pill, fleas gone

The Comfortis oral pill from the vet only covers fleas. The one I get now covers fleas and ticks for three months (more than that, really). It's not dirt cheap, but it works great. Can't remember the name off the top of my head, but your vet will have it.

We use Comfortis (chewable) ever since our inside dog had fleas. Within a day of taking it he was a new dog. We buy heartworm separately but they sell a combo Trifexis.

fwiw, the best flea shampoo ever is dawn dishwashing liquid...fleas will die and fall off the dog before you finish bathing...
also, time to treat your yard as well as your house if you want to somewhat control them...

Would you use a service that brought them back home at your convenience, rather than having to go back and pick them up?

Try cleaning your house. Proly have bed bugs too.

Many dogs develop hypersensitivity to fleas - flea allergy dermatitis. If you completely resolve the flea infestation and maintain your dog on strict, monthly flea prevention and there is still itching (especially around the rump) it is possible that this is the case.
Dogs that are more sensitive to flea saliva often require a combo approach to flea prevention which may include 2 or more flea preventions given on an alternating, biweekly schedule.
No way for me to know if this is the case for your dog and I wouldn't start the more advanced schedule without consulting yoru vet.
When cleaning a home the most important locations are underneath furniture pieces that are adjacent to high traffic areas (couch/chair). I find Knockout spray to be helpful for treating the home.
If you have any other pets they should all be on strict, monthly flea prevention too. This is especially important for indoor/outdoor cats.

my 11 year old lab has had 4 seizures in the last few months. Last month it was right after we gave her trifexis. Switched back to sentinel for this month, gave it to her yesterday and she had a seizure today. Not real sure what to do
