What are they paying for big old stand pine, roughly per tree. Wondering if it would be worth it to select cut 20 or so big pines off a small piece of property.

I have a friend that had some loggers come in and harvest about 40 acres. If you would like me to find the phone number to the people he used (BR area), let me know.

Impossible to tell. Big to you might mean 18", while big to me means >24" (I've even seen a 38" loblolly). They could be poles, could be rotted out, could have branches and knots everywhere, etc.

Just call a couple smaller loggers and get quotes

Hard to find a mill that will buy a log with a diameter greater than 30 inches in Louisiana.

I can drop them just wondering what the $ would look like.

Hammer these are large trees, most would be pole trees, haven't stretched a tape on them but been around the bog timber boys long enough to know. They are too big for the lumber mill in Bog though.

20 trees isn't much, regardless of specs.. I'd be surprised if you find somebody to pay you for them. If you want them gone you'll probably have to pay a tree service.

I will buy them if they are under 28" at the butt end. Going price is around $50 a tree and that is pushing it on the high side.

Honestly, no one int the the industry will mess with that low of a number of trees. If it were a hundred+ then maybe. Your best bet would be to find a millworks shop, or specialty buyer to try and sell them too. Transportation alone would negate any money you would make off of them.

Maybe worth it to find a small local sawmill to rough cut it 1 tree at a time for millworks projects. Otherwise cut them down, throw them in a river for about 50-75yrs to make them suck up the minerals to be classified as old growth sinker pine..... If you have the time.
