Since the beginning of video games people have been trying to find the right platform for their crappy shovelware. It was the Wii a couple of years ago. Now it's mobile and steam.

I'm off today so I literally just played through Spark Man's stage. There is slow down, particularly any time an enemy does an attack that shoots sparks out in every direction, but it's not enough to ruin my fun with the game.
quote:I just watched that myself. Too bad that it makes the fantastic music sound terrible.
I just found a YouTube video. Someone overclocked an emulator at 150% to fix the slowdown

4 added the charging buster which is either awesome or makes the too easy and different depending on your perspective. 3 should've been the best, they added the slide, great level design. By MM4, nothing could surprise you in the late game aspect.
Still my ranking is
2
4
6
5
1
3
3 would probably still be ahead of 1, if I didn't own 1 back in the day. I loved it too much for too long to realize it was inferior. I like the serious platforming difficulty

quote:For sure. IOS and Android are definitely the main bastions of that now. Steam is getting there. There needs to be a better way of curating quality games so they don't get lost in all the garbage.

Also thought of another one. Most people on this board are probably too young to remember but the game Battlecruiser 3000AD had a long, troubled development with grandiose claims that never came to fruition. I remember the ads were also embarrassingly sexualized. This was one of the tamer ones put out after the game released.
Gamespot gave it a 2.6 out of 10 because it was essentially unplayable in it's initial release state.

I feel like it has to be ET just because it crashed the industry
Someone hasn't watched the documentary yet.

ET didn't single-handedly kill it
People just repeat the shite they read on the internet. Atari had made a lot of very bad decisions and were in trouble long before ET.

I played MM3 while the kids were eating lunch. I can also pause MM3.

I was pretty young when me and my cousins would play ET. We didn't know any better and had fun playing it

Pitfall was my go to 2600 game.

You're right, my phrasing was wrong

My wife walked in the room to talk to me while I was playing Bloodborne the other night. I don't think she appreciated me taking a minute to find a safe spot

quote:I think that's when I my interest started waning. I've completed all of the "classic" Mega Man games but the first 3 are the only ones I played through repeatedly and have an opinion on. I would rank them: 2 > 3 > 1.

I remember renting 1 from a local video store and thought it was the best game I had ever played, though very hard for me at the time. Unknown to me, MM2 had just come out and I was given that for my birthday shortly afterwards. I didn't re-rent and beat 1 until I had beaten 2 several times.

I've tried to play Pitfall but I'm too spoiled on NES platformers. I appreciate its influence - basically inventing the genre - but it's almost unplayable compared to the games that came out a few years later (Mario, for example)

quote:These games really are difficult to play with kids. I understand wanting to keep to online component intact or pure or whatever, but there really should be some way to pause your game unless you've been invaded by another player. It's kind of ridiculous and is honestly a deterrent to me playing the game since there is actual risk to dying.

I usually play after everyone is asleep so it works most of the time. I got eager and jumped the gun the other night though.

I've played video games since freaking pong, but I've never been more pissed than when I dropped $60 on Halo:MCC last fall. So much hype but could not even play the multiplayer until about a month ago. Just God awful. There should have been a class action lawsuit or something. So yea I'm going with that.

In recent memory? I gotta say FF13, they had the chance to make a big splash with it also being on Xbox and failed miserably.
