How could one get this massive mean tone? (on a layman's budget that is...)

I have a strat with humbuckers and a fine tube amp. Guess I need a good fuzz pedal?

Which fuzz is the best?

Example of Anders tone: LINK

Yep, fuzz pedal. I really like Anders but I'm not a huge fan of his tone. It's all fuzz and you can't hear the guitar or the amp. Just my personal preference.

To match his exact tone:
Step one: Go get some single coils and a nicer guitar.

Step two: Go get all the same equipment

Step three: Cut off his hands and attach them to your wrists.

Step four: download his brain into yous.

To get close:

go get some single coils and a nicer guitar

Turn up the volume all the way on your guitar and use the amp to contol the volume.

get a fizz pedal

get a compressor/ sustain pedal

get an overdrive pedal

figure out how to use them all in harmony

then develop your strum hand technique to match his.

Hard to say. The big sound comes from playing through a 4x10 combo and a Marshall into a 4x12 cabinet. If you don't have the rig to push that kind of air, just crank what you've got and hope for the best.

I'm not hearing much "fuzz", by the way. It sounds like power tube saturation. Use an overdrive/boost pedal to slam your tube amp. Turn the "level" control all the way up, and the "drive" or "gain" control on just enough to give it some grit. This should make your amp howl nicely.

I don't believe there is any "best" pedal. Get what you can afford that sounds good to your ears and make it work for you.

Not to me. Power tube distortion is smooth and creamy. This sounds harsh and brittle to me. I could be talked into believing it is preamp distortion but it still sounds too harsh even for that.

Boss DS-1 Distortion
Walrus Audio Voyager Overdrive
Xotic AC Plus Dual Overdrive
MXR SF01 Slash Octave Fuzz

He literally uses four fuzz pedals

and category 5 amps are like 5 grand a piece

I said it doesn't sound like "much" fuzz to me. If I were trying to cop the sound in that clip, the first thing I'd reach for, especially if on a budget, would not be a fuzz pedal.

he's got his gain cranked on that amp and filtering it through a combination of those fuzz pedals.

I'm not privy to his amp or pedal board settings, but I still don't hear much "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones or Hendrix tone (which is what I think when I think "fuzz").

The tone in that clip does, however (IMO), sound pretty true to Neil Young's and he was/is all about overdriving his Fender Deluxe and using that tone as the launch point for his huge sound.

That's my opinion I'm out.

OP, That's the neck pickup of a strat for sure, single coil. Crank the power amp, run pre amp about 2/3, run a delay/reverb in effects loop, boost the front end with a fuzz that's barely on. That would get you close, but alot of that tone is in his hands.

I have a single coil strat also that I can play.

I went to the guitar shop and played a Dan Electro Fuzz pedal, it was complete shite. Wayyyyyyy I mean wayy to harsh.

The Fuzz pedal anders uses is $145, but it is also an octave pedal.

For an Amp, I play through a Ceriatone Overtone Special. This is a Dumble Overtone clone.

I really want a Leslie pedal to add to my rig.

Kinda want a mix between a Warren Haynes and Anders Osborne rig / gear.
