Has anyone on the OT used the Snapshot? I have a new policy with Progressive and they just sent me the Snapshot device. I worry about the privacy issues.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

TIA

It's not snapshot, but my company has a similar device in all our company trucks and it tells them pretty much everything, how you accelerate, brake, where you are, how fast you're going, when the vehicle is running or the key is on etc, doesn't bother me cause it's their truck but I don't know that I'd want one on my personal vehicle.

It monitors way more than you think it does. Take off too quick from a stoplight? That's a minus. Do a Cali stop at a stop sign? Brake suddenly? Drive more than x miles/day? All points against you.

Have it on my car...it records speed and watches more for hard braking and when you're driving than anything...have done 0-100 and 0-80 runs without it beeping and still got a decent discount for using it.

Where does is plug in? Does it know what car it's in? What I'm getting at is, could I put it in my 70 year old grandmother's car that drives 40 everywhere and get insurance for $19/month?

I kinda want to put one in my car and then light it up on the back roads--you know, over 160mph, and then send it to them...

Snapshot device is touchy when you brake. You'll figure it out.

Eta...you'll know it cause it'll beep at you.

I HATED the snapshot device. It ended up saving me like 10 bucks a month, but it beeps when you stop short. I used to get so mad when it beeped, it just was not worth 120 dollars a year.

If you happen to work overnights, don't use it...you get docked for driving after 2/3am up until 6 or 7

It only checks for hard breaking, driving between midnight and 4:00 am and average daily commute of more than 30 miles. That's it! Progressive guarantees that it will not raise your rate and that it can at worst leave your rate the same or lower it. You really have nothing to lose.

That being said I wouldn't do it again. It's a PITA to drive around with that dang thing beeping all the time. My wife drives like a maw maw and she would get hard breaks all the time. There formula for hard breaking really is insane. Unless you never drive in an urban area or never drive at all then it's impossible to not get hard breaks.

Actually sounds like a pretty good idea for a teenager's vehicle, particularly if you could get a report of what it recorded...

My wife had one installed in one of the cars. I couldn't figure out what that damn beeping noise was for the longest.

It also monitors your music and volume. Play Rap music and the rates go up.

Wish somehow it could send an electrical shock to the arse of drivers who drive below the speed limit in the LH lane.

Progressive is a George Soros company if I'm not mistaken. Sounds about right, rolls right along with the tattle tell world we live in. Actuarial scales are accurate enough to set rates, this is a whole different animal with private business spying on private individuals. Does not matter what they say, their ability to snoop is less limited than public entities and just as insidious. I admit I've become skeptical of most things, but with good reason. NHTSA has advocated black boxes on cars for years, this combined with gps make the freedom of movement of private individuals public knowledge.

I stopped using it, apparently I accelerate too quickly.

I must of had an early one. Mine never beeped.

I do stop quick and accelerate fast.
My insurance didn't go up. But I do drive my truck for business, but told them it was for commuting. I average 125 miles a day on the truck.

Wait until you are foinf 10 mph and get into an accident. Watch your rates then.

Those things should burn in hell. And ao ahould soros.

Progressive does have the best rates, best claim centers, and best customer service though.
