Is getting an MBA from a good school and starting at an Associate level post MBA an option for you? That way you can skip the excel-monkey-bottom-of-the-totem-pole IB Analyst role completely?

Associate work can still be a soul crushing grind particularly in the first year or so. Sounds like he wants to do PE, so an analyst stint would be more aligned with that goal.
