When life gives you bees make honey

We used to have a carpenter bee infestation in our yard every spring when I was younger. My friends and I would grab a bat or tennis racket and spend hours smashing those dummies. The sound of a giant be hitting an aluminum bat was oddly satisfying and hilarious.
I don't think any of us are serial killers.

I had a similar problem, but there were thousands just foraging. They never clumped up like that. They just foraged and flew back home to their hive which could be up to a mile or two away.
When they clump like that, it means the queen is with them and they're either looking for a new hive and/or already have one in your yard. You need a beekeeper.

Put a bucket under them- they'll be dripping honey in no time!
Seriously though- they won't be there for long, but if you have kids/pets that might end up getting stung, they should definitely be moved. My parents had a hive like that in their oak tree a few years ago, but they were about 25 feet up and weren't in the way.

Don't kill them with fire. Find a beekeeper to come and get them if possible.
