Very underrated documentary in my opinion.
Lars and James come off like pathetic children. The psychologist becomes a stalker. And when they offer a million dollar contract to that bass player....frick that was awesome!
yeah, I'm gonna watch it again this week.

It's just them bitching for two hours while Kirk just tries to stay out of it the entire time.
It also didn't help that the album they were working on would be crap, although only we were armed with that knowledge going in.
I did like the Mustaine appearance and sit down.

I agree. For everything that made Metallica look pathetic there was a great moment as well. This was one of them.

I liked when the whole "keeper of the beast" concept the shrink was talking about.

this documentary made me like Kirk the most. He really does an incredible job remaining level headed while James and Lars bitch and fight the entire time. Imagine having to put up with 30+ years of that bullshite!

It's the real life Spinal Tap. But the greatest moment to me is when Kirk, who spends almost the entire movie just avoiding conflict, suddenly sees James and Lars team up on him to eliminate solos from their songs. You can just feel him thinking "That's my thing, man! Screw both of you and leave me alone."
I don't feel James comes off too badly, just a guy who wants to slow down and enjoy the fruits of his labors. And good for him. But Lars.... or Lars. That scene with his dad is just so sad. Still desperate for his approval, and still not receiving it.

This doc was gold for Metalocalypse.

Kirk is totally a closeted gay guy. Not that there is anything wrong with that. He's one of my favorite guitar players ever, loves Hendrix.
I applaud Metallica for releasing this and the honesty of Hatfield in recent years. Most bands hide their true selves behind a false sense of bravado.
