In person contact (job fairs, on campus interviews, etc.) are much better than randomly applying to jobs online without any experience. No way a company is going to pay you to move to Maine straight out of school with nothing to offer them immediately.

Was at P66 in Westlake last week, guys over there were saying they need to hire 25 engineers now because of guys retiring and what not.

When I walked across the stage for my undergrad I had 7 full time job offers
Lots of manual labor/maintenance/field work carried serious weight in the 2nd interviews.

Always nice when hard work pays off

I had 5, in two months it went to 1. Damn turn downs.
Have question for you on the previous page.

Project management/application stuff. It's more project management than engineering work.
Pretty sweet gig. The pay isn't great but the professional development is fantastic. I got to saddle up a huge project right out of school.
What are you up to?

Still waiting, all other offers were pulled and my start date has been pushed twice. Starting mid April. Your in BR? I started applying with some firms over there when I started getting offers pulled, performance, and another, I should have followed up.

I'm dead serious when I say this: no one in the EE curriculum has received a job offer as a result of the past two job fairs at UNO. Most companies that have shown up have not only said that they weren't hiring, but they won't even accept resumes. I'm not sure why they were even there.

Interviews would be difficult unless they were OK with a Skype interview (I would not wear pants), but I would be fine with moving myself to wherever. Aside from my clothes + laptop, all of which could fit into a few suitcases, I have nothing that I can't leave behind. And for a $60k+ job doing what I want to do, I would be fine paying for my plane ticket.

I also have lots of hands-on and leadership experience and worked for a PETE R&D company for 3 years. Basically, I'm not getting hired by a big company

frick man that's no good. One of the bigs?

SLB, wasn't the first on my list of offers but was in the top three. I can't complain, most others I are stuck with nothing.

Well what helped me was that it was almost all relevant and I was able to smoke interviews. I was able to do damage with a 2.75
The market was also great at this time last year, and that was as big a factor as anything.

This is the main problem. You will have a hard time especially in the current environment.
Sorry I'm not more positive. You should at least be open to working in houston, Dallas, or Atlanta for a couple years to get experience. It's ok to move somewhere.

I still live close to BR and work in NOLA.
Wish I had some good leads, but pretty much all I know of now are layoffs or freezes.
I know John Crane was looking recently for a n application engineer.

Interviews are key, my GPA sucked but my resume was better than 95% of the other ppls and I smoked the interviews. Be prepared for lots of situational questions from personal experiences.

Navy is hiring EEs in Pascagoula with a good chance to transfer to Textron over in NOLA East. They have an intern program for grads, you will be guaranteed to move up the first 3 years.

I'm good, I've got a couple connections with a couple major and mid major operators that I'm going to work on. A couple are pretty solid just have to wait until 3rd Q. And if not I still have the gig with SLB.

I'll just say that my GPA is enough to keep me in school
My practical experience is through the roof. My technical engineering experience is not. I haven't ever had to do calculations. Have always had to solve problems on the fly or at a site. Not to be cocky, but I always end up being the go-to guy when problems arise. Just based on my personal experiences, I ace all of my interviews.
I am working on getting an internship right now. Trying for environmental, mechanical, or fabrication.
My uncle has a really big company that deals with large boat engines and governors, but he has a policy not to hire family members

Good deal. What are you doing in the mean time?

I tried this route when I graduated and it didnt work. What worked for me was face to face contact at the job fairs. Received multiple offers from the job fairs.
Also, just filling out random applications online was a waste of time with nothing on the the resume to make it stand out.
