I drafted 7th in a 14 team 5x5 H2H league. My plan was to fill all 10 of my offense positions first before drafting any pitching. I got to round 8, Arrieta was still there and there were 5 or 6 bats that I liked for my UT spot, so I took Arrieta. Same thing happened with Wieters and Ross in 10 and 11. So, those two were better arms than I really expected to get. I was going to completely punt on saves and draft ratio guys as relievers, but I couldn't pass on Betances in the 12 (even with the terrible spring).
Overall, I was happy with the outcome. Before the draft, I identified the type of players that I wanted, used that subset and ADPs to figure out which round I should take who and then sketched out my draft. No uh-oh picks, and I got all of the bats I wanted, except Kyle Seager, who went two picks before Sandoval. All of the pitchers I drafted were on my wishlist (except for Arrieta, Ross and Betances - because I thought they'd be gone by the time I addressed pitching.) It all pretty much went to plan.
I have two DL spots and an NA spot to work with. I plan to move Wieters to the DL, sign Bobby Parnell and move him to the DL and sign either Archie Bradley or Byron Buxton for the NA spot. I'll probably grab an extra bat with Wieters' DL spot.
I might be a little short on wins, so I'll probably have to stream an extra arm or two every week, but overall I feel good.
Any glaring holes?

There is no point in grabbing Buxton. There are better Minor League options for a NA spot. Go for Rodon in the slim chance he is available.
Yeah, there is a huge gap between Seager and Sandoval. I don't like Panda in fantasy. Dude is only slightly better than Trevor Plouffe.
The team should compete. Betances was your best value.

I really think I'll be able to grab Bradley.

Last season was a hair better than his three year average, and he's moving to a hitter's park. He *should* have someone on base in front of him, and he might be able to get some DH ABs. I think he's got a pretty good shot at hitting .280/18/80. I'm not a huge fan either, but I think his line was the most predictable and it was a LONG way before there was another 3B I liked.

I like the strategy but question the execution w the first three picks. 3 breakout players w 1 year track record, all could seemingly regress and no one would be surprised. 1 or 2 of those guys maybe, but I like to have that consistent rock. I "like" those guys enough, it's just a bold move going all in as your 3 best players
Rest of the hitters are fine. Not a fan of adams pollock or Vogt though, especially where you got them
Arrieta and Ross are a nice duo considering you waited. Mchugh as as a 3, ok. Gonna need another solid starter. Porcello and Peralta are breakout candidates if they can miss more bats.
Bullpen is fine
Id drop Vogt and try and hit on another pitcher. Plug pollock in UT abd try and deal adams for pitching. Id have quick hooks w Peralta and porcello if they don't perform
All in all good team. Id search out a solid sp4. I think adams in the best piece to move

I dont like any of your starters outside of Arrieta, and Ross, to a lesser extent.

Really, after looking at it, you went all in on last year's numbers guys. Top 3 hitters and top 3 pitchers
Abreu
Brantley
Dickerson
Arrieta
Ross
Mchugh
Could throw Betances in there too
It could work but shite that's the core of your team you have to hope doesn't regress and aren't 1 hit wonders

I need a C for a few weeks until Wieters is healthy (assuming he starts the season on the DL.)

My ideal three was Goldschmidt, Donaldson and Harper. They went 1 pick, 1 pick and 2 picks ahead of me in the first three rounds, so these three were my back up choices.
My methodology for hitters was age 25-29 with a 2014 better than their 3 year average. Of course, 2014 could be the peak for every player I chose and they could all regress to the mean. My expectation was that it was less likely to happen to a guy that was 26 or 27 than somebody like Matt Holliday or Adrian Gonzalez or Hanley Ramirez. I'm trying to avoid the "Pujols decline." This might be foolish - I guess I'll find out.

The guys one pick in front of me in 11, 12 and 13 took Lynn, Archer and Hughes. My staff looks better if I were able to get one of those guys.

Oh man. I couldn't have passed up Archer at pick 140+ for Weiters

Yea the 3 year average thing for hitters is fine. Except it doesn't apply to the first three guys you took, your supposed "foundation"
Now goldschmidt or Donaldson would've looked nice
It's an aggressive approach but it could pay off. I don't mind Sandoval- I was never a fan in SF but he produced in a terrible lineup for years. The sox lineup is stacked and he's in store for a career year. At worst you get his career average, which is steady and consistent production

Your pitching is terrible. GLNY.

I have no problem with Abreu. I would be floored if he is not an elite player in 2015.
Riding a lot on Brantley and Dickerson could be risky though. Matt Adams is probably my least favorite pick.
This team name should be 2014 Champs.

sign either Archie Bradley
I could get on board with this. Decent shot at making the club as a bullpen arm, and I don't trust Chase Anderson, Trevor Cahill and likes to keep him there long.
Posted on 3/31/15 at 10:52 am to MrWiseGuy
Anderson should be OK. Delgado may grab a spot; ST velocity has evidently held steady at 92+.
Posted on 3/31/15 at 10:55 am to MrWiseGuy
but will they toggle with Bradley from RP to SP in the middle of the year?
Posted on 3/31/15 at 10:56 am to Louie T
Delgado in the pen
They announced the rotation yesterday:
Collmenter
Hellickson
Rubby De La Rosa
Anderson
Cahill
