If they are leaving Spotify it makes me like Spotify even more. Blows my mind how anyone can idolize these people.

Saw that this morning they were saying that streaming their videos would be the huge selling point. I haven't watched a music video since carson daily was relevant.

Oh I'm wrong then.

Still, buying albums would be more expensive. Worth it if you want to own though.

I just make spotify playlists. Those things keep me sane at work.

$20 is probably average for 1 album

Where are you downloading albums from? I strictly use spotify but I just went and looked at top albums in iTunes and I can't find a single album that cost $20. There is one that is $15 and several that are $14 but most are cheaper than that. Either way still 25% less than the $20 average.

Looks like he is hoping Tidal will "be courting new artists aggressively to join the service and offer Tidal special material and 'windows,' or limited periods of exclusive availability." NY Times link

Apple/Beats is said to be working on a similar streaming service that may be announced this June. Trent Reznor is in a leading role in the development of the app. Apple/Beats also hopes to have certain new releases available only on their service for the first few weeks or months, similar to what some movie streaming/satellite services do.

so i presume if your favorite artist releases their music exclusively on that service, you have no choice but to download the album or pay for the streaming service? seems like they have the customer over a barrel on that.

You think West Coast Dr. Dre is going to let his headphones work with East Coast Jay-Z's music service? This is the rap feud for a new millennium.

The information in this thread is blowing me away.

Agreed.

I can't fault the guy for doing this.

Ditto.

I'm not the person that needs to hear an album the day or even month it drops. I can wait

Same here. And I doubt they make any moves to sign non-trending musicians.

oh okay yea I can't remember the last time I download or purchased an album but that number seemed pretty high. I will say charging $15 for a digital download still seems like BS. Their margin has to be pretty damn good.
