Tidal (whispered in a european model's voice, like a CK ad from teh 90s)

quote:

Only a few minutes ago, the entire music industry stood on a stage in a collective display of how rich and out of touch they are. They think you are willing to pay up to double the price of other streaming music services to pay for their streaming music service, because they are crazy.

Pretty cool he got all those people to buy in, it shows his crazy influence in the industry.

But I'll stick with spotify for half the price unless they lose artists.

Daft Punk, JackWhite, Beyoncé, Kanye, etc. combined leaving all services except Tidal could really frick with spotify IMO

at some point i'm sure the licensing will become exclusive amongst the various services

that's going to happen with video streaming services, too, which is going to piss off cord cutters

and look at how many of their family friends turned out to stand on stage, visibly uncomfortable, and listen to Alicia Keys give an incoherent speech.

so i presume if your favorite artist releases their music exclusively on that service, you have no choice but to download the album or pay for the streaming service? seems like they have the customer over a barrel on that.

I heard a good argument against spotify from some friends who work in the industry in Nashville.

To paraphrase, the non-famous, non-super rich song writers, sound technicians, etc. get paid nearly nothing from their portion of streaming royalties, especially compared to traditional album sales.

My counter was it's still more than the nothing they get from torrents.

That's cool but Daft Punk and Beyoncé are two of the most popular artists on the planet. They carry big ole dicks in the industry

And I love Daft Punk and Jack White.

How would that change with Jay Z's new service? And I have always argued that torrents are great for smaller artists because people will download and listen to their music when they likely would never have heard or bought their album in the first place.

one great thing about primarily relying on EDM for music is that i have countless podcasts/set that i can download for free, 100% legally

People have forked over billions to Dr Dre for headphones that sound no different than a can and a straw.

Sheeple are amazingly stupid and will buy anything these people tell them to buy. They'll make a killing off of this.
