Bc John Oliver is awesome.
Also, me being a conservative has nothing to do with it. I prefer the daily show over the Colbert show (slightly). The views they push have nothing to do with what the show actually is... A comedy.

I enjoy it when it is actually comedy. When Stewart gets on his liberal, preachy soapbox, I just cringe. You can't call a show satirical or a comedy and then all of a sudden try to be poignant. It's like having your cake and eating it too.

Colbert seems to ALWAYS bring his A game, night in and night out. Stewart I think has become so fatigued by the whole thing that he sleep walks through some of the episodes (don't blame him)
Plus he gets Jimmy Fallon syndrome in a lot of his interviews where he just laughs so hard over what the person is saying that there isn't even really an interview

Well I just notice how much he contradicts himself when they get all soap boxy.
With all of these shows, especially bill Mayr. When in a debate, and get "served" they quickly dismiss the points with comedy and mockery. Mahr is the worst about this. "Well clearly you know nothing about Iran" :audiencelaughs: moving along.

Also the tweets that the New guy is getting in trouble for are nowhere near offensive, or funny for that matter

Trevor Noah's stand up is pretty good. It will be interesting to see how he brings his South African perspective to the show, if at all. His humor seems way dryer than Stewart's.
Never really watched the Daily Show religiously anyway, so I will probably do what have always done: catch it here and there flipping through the channels.

I don't line Wilmore either, but apparently his nightly race baiting is pulling about 3/4 of Colbert's audience - way more than I would have guessed.

This is why I think he'll actually work nicely in the spot. He's different enough that he won't just be compared to Stewart. He shouldn't have a hard time playing the straight man with the correspondents. Plus, as John Oliver showed, the foreign lens is a nice jumping off point for satire and social commentary.
There will be a transition with the writers learning how to write for him, but the move makes way more sense than Larry Wilmore to replace Colbert.

I recall when Kilborn left. I thought it would suck. Instead, it evolved and got better.
Wilmores show is bad Bc he focuses so much on race. But Oliver did great on daily show and Colbert was great doing his thing. Odds are, it'll stay good if all the support cast remains.

Watching Noah's Standup now and it's pretty up and down. Not the best but he's got some talent

Historically, political satire has always taken a position or idea and promoted it.

yeah but they rotate between satire and legitimate news/points. that's his point. they play both sides
when the serious journalism side is challenged, they hide behind the "it's just a comedy!" claim

I think satire requires a certain amount of truth/legitimacy though for it to be effective

I like the show but had to turn it off last night for this reason. He can be hilarious when he's calling both sides of the political aisle out on their bullshite, but his slanted political tirades are nauseating, and I'm not even a big fan of republicans or Fox News.
