BBQ and Boiled seafood. LINK

quote:

After operating a catering business in Baton Rouge for the past 12 years, Elvondae “Von” Raybon is working to bring a new restaurant and seafood market called Pit-N-Peel to Mid City.

“I think this area right here needs a place like this that they can call home,” says Raybon, who is leasing a long-vacant building at 2101 Government St. and adding a kitchen to the space, which was previously home to a clothing store. “Places like Sammy’s and Mike Anderson’s have been institutions in their areas for years, and I’m just trying to do the same for this neighborhood and make my mark.”

On the corner of 23rd and Gov't near Cleo's building.

It is non-existent, but there is street parking on the side streets behind it. The biggest issue is they have a lot of competition nearby. On the pit side, they have Smokin' Aces right across the street, not even a block away. On the peel side, they have Cap City Crawfish down the road, but at least that's an extra 2 miles.

I wish them good luck as long as they don't cause trouble for those other two places I mentioned.

I was thinking the same thing.

Unless they're going for a full sit down restaurant concept, which would be cool.

Will also have trouble on the market side.

Place just does not seem like its ready to be a market.

Needs a lot of work.

Yes, where the light is. On the other side of Government is Camellia Ave.

Parking does suck at that location, and 21st is a one way street going towards Government so you'd basically have to approach it from the neighborhood side. (Camellia is two-way though.) Honestly, if I lived in the Garden District I'd walk across Government at the light to get to it. The owner seems to be hoping for a lot of walk-up or bike-up traffic too.

There used to be small yard signs at a house almost across the street from there advertising boiled crawfish and BBQd stuff. Is that the same people?
