Was one of my late fathers favorite TV series. Thought i'd give it a go.

Any tips or things I should know before watching this series? Seems to be one of those types that a little nudge in the right direction from the start would help out a lot.

No spoilers obviously, but after watching the pilot episode...

Do the flashing 1 picture things at commerical breaks mean anything? Whats the deal with Walter twitching hand? Is it some code or something?

The pictures are code. A word of significance is spelled out over the course of the episode. Sometimes it has to do with that or the next episode. Sometimes it hints at future reveals that have to do with that episode.

glyphs key

It's a great series with a superb overall arc. Season 1 is more monster of the week and then it shifts to being more serialized. Watch and enjoy.

It's really good. I've watched it twice and that's not typically my type of show. Took a little bit for me to get hooked but it gets really really good after season 1

I'm into the fourth season and slowing on my pace of watches. Starting to get bogged down, IMO. Still great television, but not as compelling.

Walter's twitch is from his antipsychotics. He doesn't keep it as far as I can tell. Anyway, it's a complex show with a lot of cool, out there concepts. Pretty fun stuff

yeah... stick with it. Lots of Monster of the Week stuff and broad stroking the main characters in S1.

S2 it ramps up fairly quickly. The middle of S2 to the middle of S3 is, IMO, one of the best years of series television ever made, all genres. It's so creative and different and slick... but it's still a show about family and friends and relationships at its heart.

Also - when it finally comes to an end - The finale is in my Top 5 as far as leaving the viewer satisfied.

Feel free to bump this thread with your thoughts as you progress. There's a bunch of us here who live a little vicariously through those experiencing the show for the first time.

And you will have questions. Probably a bunch of 'em as a matter of fact. Don't be shy. We are here to help.

Let me just get this out of the way...

ETA:

Also...

I can almost hear the music.

So do I want to know the trouble that Peter is in? Or wait for it to play out?

And yea, Dunham is hot. Kinda grows on you, like Beckett in Castle. Shes hot, but gets WAY hotter as the series goes on.

He had his fingers in a lot of pies. If any part of his past is relevant to what's going on in the present... It will be addressed.

Thought i'd give it a go.

We just finished a board rewatch of it a few weeks ago actually (I need to bump/respond to that thread still).

Enjoy. It's a solid series. There are lots of "monster of the week" type episodes like someone mentioned, but they're pretty fun for the most part.

Also, prepare for things to get really, really......weird. But it all makes sense within the framework of the show, so as long as you pay attention and keep up, you'll be fine. It's a fun ride.

I might even pull out my ol' OJ brain to help answer some of your questions...

coco, I'm so sorry I didn't keep up with you guys on the Fringe thread, being unemployed and not knowing where your next meal is coming from can be pretty stressful

I notice it didn't stop you from posting...just from posting in the Fringe thread.

Just kidding, man. There were a core few of us that kept the thread going the entire time. So while more people participating would've been nice, it was still cool. We're still nto done completely with it though...have the finale and S5 (and the series as a whole) to discuss. I will likely bump it today when I respond to other comments. Feel free to jump in. Hope all is well.

easy to post on a forum , not so much to rewatch another show

yeah, did a complete 180 on my career and have changed what I was doing... could NOT be happier, more money, and way less stress, couldn't be happier

(I could theoretically start catching up on Fringe at work as well!!!)

From the Fringe OP:
quote:

I know there have been several "I'm watching Fringe" threads in the last few weeks/months, so people like that would likely not want to rewatch it again so quickly, but who knows. And even still, they can always jump in on the discussion and contribute that way since it's still relatively fresh in their minds.

So....there's that.

we are watching it for the first time and so far we like it, only through ep 8 of S2. Slow going a bit at times.

**** SPOILERS I GUESS ****

I never felt like they actually addressed this. Like... at all. Pretty much left that thread dangling except for when Peter decks a dude and tells him to stay away from some woman he apparently used to be involved with. Then that entire thread gets dropped completely. That was actually a MAJOR problem I had with the show. They build up Peter's mysterious past and then say, "Nah, just kidding."

Unless they pick it back up in late Season 4 or 5, which I have yet to watch.

**** END SPOILERS ****

Just finished S1E14...Olivia with superpowers to turn off magic lights in a bomb box...Umm yea, so, WTF mate?

Bishop being the author of the manifesto is pretty cool. Figured that was coming.

This whole series has a very Alias feel to it. LIES upon LIES upon LIES.

I like it so far, and can totally see why my dad liked it. We always loved these types of shows. Some of my favorite memories of him were us staying up til 2 o'clock in the morning to was the tv series FX together.

I'm trying to get into it. Through two seasons and it's slow IMO. We're taking a break, probably revisit in a week.

Just finished Season 1

I can see why people said the first season was Catch this monster, monster every episode. There was a real lack of character development.

Cool seeing Nimoy.

Peter is Walters son, that he hijacked from an alternate reality after his real son died.

Not really sure what we were suppose to learn about Olivia. Yea, she was part of the drug trials as a kid. Its made her super human in some way.

Guess I'll learn more when I get Season 2 when I get back on land next week.

Overall, i'd give season 1 a 6/10. The show is cool, episodes are entertaining enough. There really isnt anything that makes you attached to any of the characters. They could kill off any of Bishops, Dunham, Astrid, and it wouldnt really matter to me. There really wasnt much of a cliff hanger or anything to end the season. Well see how season 2 goes.
