As long as it's a decent dealership they should be able to file for a lost title. I believe it runs about $125 to do at the dealership. Obviously cheaper if you did it yourself.

Dealer can get the title. They will probably charge you.

Should be $45 for lost title file at the dealer unless they are marking it up more.

No it won't. Trust me they want you to drive the car off the lot asap. Signed paperwork plus taking delivery equals finalized deal.

Dealer will do a bill of sale then apply for a new title in their name, I believe.

This happened to me a few years ago. I had to sign a power of attorney to the dealership to register for a new copy of the title.

A reputable dealership should be able to take care of this with no hassle. In my case, the dealership didn't charge me anything.

Who knows? Maybe it was inherited from a grandparent and there was no title found in the estate.

This. If you don't haggle the life out of the deal, they should do it for you for nothing.

OP loses car title.

OP:

There's a service offered by banks called "Safe (or Safety) Deposit Boxes". They are a really good place to keep important documents and small valuables.

Avail yourself of this service and store important documents there in the future.

You should ask for the Planners discount and special Organized shopper financing.
