What are some different things yall put in gumbos? Something you wouldn't consider a "normal" gumbo.

At the camp one weekend, we had a big gumbo and we ran out of rice. We used some chicken dressing and it was da bomb!

Tater salad

Boiled eggs

Sweet potatoes

Fresh sausage

I prefer chicken gumbo over seafood gumbo
It's quite a bit cheaper and it reheats a lot better too

Sweet pots are legit. Eggs are a must. Pot salad is ok. Have eaten it over dirty rice. Also legit.

When do you add the sweet potatoes? When you add the rest of your veggies?

Drop them in raw or serve them over cooked sweet potatoes?

... And I'll add Red beans to the discussion

Is that a replacement for rice? Or in addition? Kind of like potato salad?

I'm kind of dissapointed I didn't hear about this in the winter time.
