I have an 11 year old Dixie chopper with a Kohler Command engine. The engine has been good to me. Regular fluid and filter changes every season. Rebuilt the carb once due to bad fuel. The Kohler Courage had some issues, one was the engine block would crack. not sure what engine you are looking at ,but google might help or go to a lawn and garden forum and ask questions.

The one that has the most torque should be your choice.
Not sure why mowers and tractors are classified based on HP, it’s the torque that matters the most. I went with the Kawi for my ZTR, even though it was a HP lower than the Kohler, it had a higher torque number.

My next mower will have a Kawasaki, but my FIL has a Kohler, and he's been very happy with it for the last 4-5 years.
On the other hand, I have a 10 year old 22hp Briggs that runs very strong.
You're welcome.
