You can make 80-100k in virtually any ho-hum outside sales jobs if you are good at what you do
Thats the thing about sales, if you arent a hitter, you'll always struggle. Be it low pay, or impending layoff in the high paying jobs

This is true. I made low six figures as a concrete sales rep for many years in Atlanta. Now I had to drive a damn Crown Vic around because our idiot CEO thought we would all be out hauling stuff around and taking a truck to hunting camps, etc..(which is actually true). But I had a generous expense account, full match 401k, great insurance, etc.. That was a good gig as a commercial sales rep....but the residential reps did not do so well. They topped out at around 50k and had a small expense account.
Steel reps and overhead door guys did better than us by a long shot in the commercial construction industry.

Merchant services. If you get in with the right company and already have connections with different businesses you can make bank. I've seen $300k+ a year.
How old are you? Verizon is a good sales job if you are young and have technology experience. Make $70k+ easily if you hit your numbers

Forgot to mention haven't paid for a car, gas or car expenses in 20 years. Every two years get a new car. Turn them in with about 110,000 miles. Driving Altima's now.

During good times you can make a whole lot of money in the oil field. Luckily what I do stays pretty safe even in times like these.

Something about this post tells me why you may have had a hard time pursuing high paying careers that involve maintaining personal relationships.

Oilfield sales is the best IMO. Too much gov regulation in medical sales.

This is how I also feel. All of the people in this thread were way off imo. I have met a lot of medical sales people and while there is exceptions just like in any field I have heard it is not all that it is cracked up to be or used to be. Oil field is awesome amounts of money flying around all the time with noticeable commissions. It is very hard to get a job in a good sales position but it seems to be yours to lose once you have it.

The key is don't be a dumbass and blow your wad when you have a big year. Put that shite in the bank.. pay off any debt and save for retirement...start putting 2 to 3 years together and then live a little but still don't get stupid..these things go in cycles. In the last 4 years I had a low of 145k and a high of 350k....you base your living off the low number. Also helps when the wife also pulls 6 figs

This should also be the same for any sales position. Mine is somewhat steady with very high surges. The company I am with seemed to be a fairytale company at first and I have still haven't found much I don't like. They pay a very handsome salary (not just by sales terms) to make sure that you are willing to do the small things and not pass up anything. That being said I still have a great commission structure that allows you to really pull in a lot of money on most of the things that we sell.
