What remedies psychological, physical, emotional; and maybe even some of you stranger types even go sexual; when you doubt your own abilities to perform a task, accomplish a goal?????

Does God help you? Your spouse or SO? Your children? Your parents? A best friend? The old man at the bus stop? Your gym trainer? Your unconditionally loving dog? For atheists, how do you dig deep within yourself to find strength, what motivates you if no supernatural forces exist in your worldview?

We all have doubts of course, so no one is exempt from those moments, even OT ballers had a point that turned them into the OT baller.

When I catch myself doubting that I can do something, I ask myself why am I afraid? Once I get to the core of what I am afraid of, I break that goal down into smaller more manageable goals. Overcompensating with arrogance will help too.

This seems to be a common thing. I'm not sure as to what degree of arrogance you assume, but I think of the gym-rat sorts who overcompensate for their doubt in their masculinity by accumulating massive muscle size, even though it's not a necessity when their largely non-athletes, some are even downright awful at sports.

I'm not saying this is you, just made me think of that.

Okay, since I've heard this twice, what does that look like for you? Describe your actions/mindset if you don't mind.

Remember in middle school when everyone bragged about getting laid that was obviously bullshite. It was so obvious to me at the time. Most people never grow out of it, overcompensating for their insecurities. It's not bad, it works. If you wanna be confident, be confident. Fake it til you make it.

Agree, but to a healthy extent . Also, I would keep those things confined in my own mind instead of telling them out loud.

i basically work harder at everything (that i can control) when i doubt myself. i start cancelling other activities in order to get the affected area of my life back up to par, and i get much more rigid in terms of making sure i'm getting enough exercise, eating right, and getting enough sleep, at the expense of hobbies and other extracurriculars.

i do have anxiety/ruminate about whatever is wrong, which is productive in some cases and counterproductive in others. if i feel like i can't control my anxiety about something and that it's not a productive sort of anxiety, i'll go talk to a therapist (it has very rarely come to that, almost never, but it's been very helpful in a few cases to me).

so essentially, i focus all of my energy on whatever i'm having trouble with/doubting myself about. i read about it, think about it, and work on it. i also mentally prepare myself for the possibility that i am incapable of whatever it is, and that if that's the case, life will go on.
