Help with my outboard motor

I have a yamaha 150 vmax. As I was putting my boat on the trailer after fishing yesterday, the overheat light and buzzer started alarming. The motor was peeing good so I'm thinking maybe thermostat? Any other suggestions?

Just because its peeing doesn't mean your water pump isn't out. They say you should change it every 2 years. Its a quick and pretty easy starting point

Did you Check oil level, my Suzi will do that when the level is low and on a incline.

I have a separate low oil light and buzzer. That was ok.

Would be my luck to have been out and then while picking it up my Tstat goes out. I would look else where.

This should be pretty easy to track down. The thermostat housing on those motors are easy to get to, just pop that sucker out and test it to make sure it's opening. I would run it on the hose first to make sure it's actually overheating and not just the wiring.
If the thermostat is bad you might as well go ahead and do the water pump while you're working on the motor. I like to replace both of them together. Toss any functioning parts in your tool box except for the thermostat. No need to keep a spare in the boat.
The last step, after you checked the thermostat and water pump would be to repower with a yamaha.

If/When your thermostat does fail on you, don't call sea tow. Just take the thermostat out...

My 200 will do that if the pump isn't transferring oil from the reservoir into the oil container on the motor.

Yamaha's are notorious for the overheat alarm going off. The water pickup is on the nose of the lower unit so it sucks up a bunch of trash. When I fish places like the river where I'm having to push through real skinny water, mine goes off constantly. Its my biggest complaint with that motor.
