Are you sure you're not already on the governor's budget advisory team?

Jindal has already cut funding per student 42% and raised tuition 38% since he came into to office. He has decimated higher education and healthcare since he was elected, denying residents billions in matching federal funds. 10 years ago, 75 percent of the university's revenue came from state, but today 85 percent of revenue now comes from students, about 15 percent comes from the state, thanks to Jindal. He wants to cut that 15% by another 80%, meaning at LSU Baton Rouge 27% less faculty, 1,400 fewer classes, building closures, devastating the university status, accreditation, course offerings, and BR economy. From 75% "State" funding to 2.5%, from LSU to LsU to LU in 8 yrs. LINK LINK

"The purpose of every university is to educate and empower a rising generation of good citizens, to fund valuable research, and to teach the tools that support economic growth."

He inherited a surplus in 2007 and has turned it into a 1.6 billion deficit to honor his pledge to Norquist and the Americans for (Wealthy) Tax Reform, by giving huge inventory and property tax cuts to big businesses. Access to healthcare and higher education are basic quality of life issues, that, unfortunately are not protected by the State.

No Death Valley Preference: The cuts are going to affect schools equitably across the State because local businesses and communities depend on them and so do the asses of their elected officials. "Louisiana has four systems — the LSU System, Southern University System, Louisiana Technical and Community College System and the University of Louisiana System — that oversee public colleges and universities. A fifth board — the state Board of Regents — is over those four. There are more than 30 campuses spread across the state, including health sciences and law schools. Fourteen of those are four-year degree-granting universities."

This should no longer be a political issue. The cuts to education are so large as to threaten accreditation and basic excellence in education. I don't give a shite if Jindal aspires to higher office, he needs to keep in mind what is good for the state of Louisiana and LSU

I'm still amazed the support Jindal is getting.

This is 100% his doing. I didn't think it was possible for a governor to make this many bad fiscal policy decisions

Exactly. You must have classes to produce student athletes. Unfortunately, no school = no football.
so what you're saying is we can get our athletic programs to go pro! Shut it down man lets go pro!

Jindal has lost all the reasonable people in this state, but there are always those who will support anything with a pulse and an R after their names, especially if he throws a few Jesus references in there from time to time. Some of them are on this board.

Exactly, and Bobby Jindal only cares about Bobby Jindal, always has. He might be one of the worst Gov. ever in this state and that's saying a LOT.

Even with an R or D behind the name you have to question what is going on.

10 Things You Didn't Know About Piyush Jindal -

Any person who governs on taxpayer dollars and seeks to deny his constituents access to the same state-funded services he received and still receives has to be the biggest "Manchurian Candidate" hypocrite of all time.

quote:

7. Before he turned 30, Jindal headed Louisiana's Department of Health and Hospitals and became president of the University of Louisiana System. He served in the Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush and was executive director of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare in the late '90s. Prior to public service, Jindal worked for the consulting firm McKinsey & Co.

With that background he should be defending state-funded higher education and access to health care, rather than trying to privatize them.

He benefited from minority access to the best education in the public and private sector (Ivy League, Oxford Rhodes Scholar) worked in government all his life on taxpayer dollars.

Your vagina will then have more room to grow.

Addendum: Well that was out of context.

Really? LSU's budget is larger now than when KBB was governor. Please tell me how losing state funding is going to affect accreditation. How does any private school get accredited without state funding?

If they do not have the class offerings in certain specialties within the school, then they will not be able to offer a bona fide degree in that specialty. Not my data, read the links or Google it.

So do you really believe LSU will allow a degree program to lose certification? I have a hard time believing that especially giving how low LSU's tuition and fees are compared to other school.

Jindal turning down federal matching funds and running up a deficit of 1.6 billion is a fiscal crisis. The dozens of reports over the past 3 months regarding the impact of his new budget cuts on higher education, having already cut state-funding from 75% to 15% in 8 yrs, would cut the 15% 80% more to 3%.

Do you believe the President of the University?

quote:

At the system’s flagship university in Baton Rouge, the documents say 27% of faculty positions would have to be cut, along with 1,400 classes, jeopardizing the accreditation of the engineering and business colleges. Some campus buildings would also be closed.

quote:

The potential implications of such hefty cuts were summed up in stark terms: 1,433 faculty and staff jobs eliminated; 1,572 courses cut; 28 academic programs shut down across campuses; and six institutions declaring some form of financial emergency.

Yesterday: 3/26:
quote:

Alexander said the legislative session is just 19 days away and the university must gamble and make predictions on what faculty positions to fill and what course offerings to keep. "Talk to your legislative leaders for us," Alexander said to members of the Rotary Club. "We're asking for basic support. We need your help on the edges."

Alexander has another uphill battle to face, as he is set to speak to 1,400 students and their parents Wednesday night during a recruitment event. He has to convince students and parents that LSU is the right choice and that classes will be available.
