AtleSt 5 soldiers were killed looking for this POS. He should spend life in Prison. As for as Obama and giving back 5 Taliban leaders. Just another dumbass decision that this JV Administration has made. No I take that back, It's more like middle school team. Anyone who doesn't see how sorry Obama''s foreign policies are by now is just ignorant.

I find it interesting that he allegedly escaped for nine days. Then his body gave out and he returned to the Taliban.

Also, the fact that his fellow soldiers are coming out against him is a huge red flag.

I think there's a 0% chance he gets death or life in prison, but I'm certain combat operations would fall under the "war" category. It was called the war on terror after all.

He should have come back into the country in handcuffs.

You would think so, but I'm sure there's room for a technical interpretation in there. I'm sure he's not the only deserter since WWII but WWII was the last time we shot someone for it.

He's also been charged with Misbehavior Before the enemy, basically cowardice, which is the more serious charge in this case.

this whole shite just baffles me...

this guy was imprisoned so we let five al queida terrorists go for his release and now we are going to put him back in prison...only thing we really accomplished is that five terrorists were released...

I also think his former unit coming out against him is a huge red flag. It takes an enormous frickup for that to happen.

Here's one former soldier from his unit that's still angry... LINK

quote:

The Daily Beast’s Christopher Dickey later wrote that "[w]hether Bergdahl…just walked away from his base or was lagging behind on a patrol at the time of his capture remains an open and fiercely debated question.” Not to me and the members of my unit. Make no mistake: Bergdahl did not "lag behind on a patrol,” as was cited in news reports at the time. There was no patrol that night. Bergdahl was relieved from guard duty, and instead of going to sleep, he fled the outpost on foot. He deserted. I’ve talked to members of Bergdahl’s platoon—including the last Americans to see him before his capture. I’ve reviewed the relevant documents. That’s what happened.

Backlash would've been even worse had they left a soldier in enemy hands without attempting to rescue him.

It was really a no-win situation.

Huh? Who the frick knew of bergdahl before all this? No one, the army didn't seem too preoccupied with trying to get him back, after all it had been 5 years, and it was pretty clear by this point what he had done.

Did you know his name before the prisoner swap though? I am military and sure as hell didn't. So what backlash are you talking about? People can't be too frustrated about stuff that they know nothing about.

I don't know where you were posted when Bergdahl disappeared, but it was pretty big news here. I certainly knew his name long before the prisoner trade.
