“@LarryHolder: Payton: Plan is to move Hawthorne over to Mike to replace Lofton.” ...are you kidding me? How does this make us any better? In Payton I trust but jeez this does not seem like it will end up well.

How about we see what they do in the draft and if he is actually starting in September before the freak out.

Gives our rookie ILB a year to get acclimated. What's the big deal, we were planning on hawthorne starting on the inside.

On one hand, i like it because he's more athletic than Curtis Lofton. He's faster and better in coverage.

On the other hand, I HATE it because this dude cannot shed a block to save his life. If our interior DL play doesn't improve, and he has to take on pulling guards & a center, we will get gashed up the middle.

Lets give it until at least preseason before we go crazy. I think he will have some competition with Humber who I think played better at times. Also lets not rule out the chance of a healthy Ellerbee moving back inside.

You know that March roster declarations are pretty much meaningless right? They are basically saying, as of right now, Hawthorne is the best, healthy option they have for MLB.

Humber

I like his abilities, but he fits more into the Will role in my opinion. I want to see them work with him on some coverages this year. In my opinion he's less likely to be able to handle the middle position than Hawthorne.

Humber seems a bit undersized to play the Mike and would also struggle taking on the guards like Hawthorne.....I love Humber's speed and range, but he was out of position quite a bit last year seemingly from lack of instincts....Hopefully with a year of experience under his belt he can take a step forward

damn offseason - where every little thing is blown way out of proportion.

"this just in - CSP had a Tuna sandwich for lunch - this indicative of his displeasure with the Chicken Salads lunch performance yesterday".

everyone relax - its still WAY early in the off season to flip out about stuff.

Very well-put and that's a great observation, I saw the same thing last year. That has a lot to do with experience, which is something that Hawthorne (at least) has. I think Humber is a perfect fit for WLB because it is the perfect place to learn how to correctly react to the play, and his body type fits the role better. Have a competent Will on your team is vastly underrated.

I like the idea. Hawthorne on 1st and 2nd...Ellerbe on 3rd down. Guys like Eric Kendricks & Stephone Anthony don't leave the field.

Thought you meant Jim Hawthorne was going to replace a retiring Jim Henderson.

in fairness - the tone in which you posted the thread, kinda of dictated how the replies have gone.

it comes across as a mini meltdown and over reaction. if it is not the way it was intended, then so be it - but wording is everything when wanting to engage an actual discussion.

I like the move for Hawthorne because it's his natural position, but like a few others on here, I'm really hoping we get Anthony from Clemson.
