How far away were you?

frick that. I could never be in the medical field or anything like that.
Buddy was an EMT and has told me some stories. One was about a motorcycle accident and the guy was paralyzed in the wreck in the middle of August in Louisiana. He was basically grilling like a steak on the road until they got there to help him.

Having witnessed something similar. I feel for you dude. You and your daughter are in my prayers.

Spinal and neck injuries are not places good samaritans should get involved with.

I've flipped 180 on getting a motorcycle for that very reason.

Goddamnit, I laughed at that too and I feel bad about it again.

So if you see a pedestrian just get trucked over by a car and fly 20' in the air and land on his head, you're just going to take a right and go home?

If I had a little girl with me?
Damn straight. Dude is either dying or severerly injured, what are you going to do?
Eta: Given the 8 lane and other facts given by the OP.

hate to hear that you had to see that, man...this world is full of shitty things that will mess you up for a while...
be sure to keep an eye on your daughter and keep tabs on how she is feeling about things...get her to a counselor quickly if you see an issue developing...

Stranger than fiction...

People were attending to him…we were right 1/2 block away from Central Baptist Hospital. There was a nurse on the way to work and an EMT in training with him. I was going the opposite way, so I had to wait for the traffic to stop and assist my daughter calling 911 to give specific info and location. The authorities were there within 3-4 minutes. What chapped my arse was how people driving did not slow down or be patient…a couple assholes were honking at me when I slowed them down so I could cross to assist. My main concern was safety of my daughter and myself before I could assist. When the Lexington PD came, I went right to them and told them what I witnessed.

Thats a terrible example to set for your child. She's 12 years old. Not 6.
Apparently he was close enough to see the blood gushing out of his head so why not stop, call 911 and wait for the paramedics?

Damn. I've managed to make it 32 years without witnessing anything heinous. Sorry about that.

8 lane rd and a bus full of people. I imagine there were tons of people there helping and doing what they could.

Damn. That would probably mess me up pretty good.

I have been through MVA 2001 and survive a transected aerota and had a near death experience…this has me pretty messed up a bit.
All of this plus more and in the VFD for 25+ years, EMT for 6 of those. Credentials aside now I can tell you that what you saw will be with you forever. It won't be every day but you will always remember it when something happens to trigger it. Have a couple of drinks of something, sit down, take a deep breaths, and think it through slowly. You will feel a little more comfortable after that. I don't drink but a couple of beers helped me on a couple of bad occasions.
Worry more about your girl. The young ones don't process things like we do. I saw my first dead guy at about that age. I couldn't eat for 3 days. I still see his brains hanging out when something triggers it. Just keep her calm and stay nearby her for as long as it takes.

As a little boy in California in the 70s I saw a blonde girl on a white horse get hit by a train. Blood and limbs everywhere. Things like this stick.

I know someone who hit a guy walking onto the interstate to commit suicide. She was very messed up about it and had to get help.
