I have searched the internet and it seems like getting a shop vac and sucking the clog from the end of the pipe is a common way to clear it, but I don't own a shop vac.

I can see the drain hole and have enough access to run a snake through it...do they sell "snakes" at the local hardware store or Home Depot? or is this something I need to pay a plumber to do?

The drain pipe is one of those that goes down and then bends back up (like you see in a sink).

Thoughts?

Snake it. Many options at HD or Lowes.

After that, pour a cup of bleach down the pipe twice a year. Will kill the mold buildup.

ETA: And buy a damn shop vac while you're there!!

Pour a little bleach in one end, and suck it out with a shop vac.

Seriously. The owner of this site doesn't have central air?

And every man should have a shop vac in the garage.

Get a shop vac. It'll come in handy again.

I unclog with my shop vac. Would be cheaper to just go buy a $30 shop vac at Harbor Freight or Home Depot than hire a plumber IMO.

I will bet its just algea clogging the pipe and pouring bleach in it will clear it up. I doubt you'll need any pressure or suction to clear it.

Yes, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and invest in one as it is a lot less expensive than a plumber

You can get a cheap snake at harbor freight if you go that route

Yes they do and this is an option.

First, pour a cup of bleach down the drain line. If it does not clear the clog in an hour, then use the snake.

That keeps the smells from returning back thru the pipe and into the house

Just tear the house down and start over, Chicken

You can find Snakes at most hardware stores..I'd go that route. It's easier and less expensive than a shop vac
