I would say any player who is top 5 at their position.

I would expand that to say top 5 at position, including current players. Fournette is a great example; he might have started a bit slow, but he would have started in front of all but a few players in the country. My definition of elite is very narrow. There are only a handful at any given time. But, I def agree with you that you compare the player to others at the same position.

As others have said, an elite recruit, ar minimum, can contribute day 1.

In my opinion an elite recruit has all the skills needed to be a day one starter at any school in the nation.

Somebody who is obviously bigger, faster, stronger, and/or better than everyone else in their age group. A "can't miss" pro prospect.

Any 5*(except on Scout/Fox) is considered elite. I have a different standard than the services as I rarely consider more than 10-15 guys elite on a yearly basis. Yo me elite is a guy that is at the very top of their position, has one or multiple elite skills for that position and just plainly a guy that stands out above the rest, even the other so called elite prospects as ranked by the services. Elite is one of those you know it when you see it type things. There aren't many on a yearly basis IMO.

There are only 2 kids on our roster I considered elite prospects coming out, Fournette and Toliver. Others are close like, Dupre,Pocic, Okeke-Valentine, Travonte Valentine, Clifton Garrett, White and Adams. A couple near elite just at their position but not in an overall aspect are Josh Boutte, Quinn, Tyron Johnson, Teahuma(as a OG) and Rashard Robinson.

Everyone has a different definition so its interesting to read and hear others opinions on elite. One flaw, IMO, in some of the services definition of elite is the fact that they put a number or cap on it. 247 caps 5* kids at 32. To them it makes no difference is there are more or less kids they actually consider elite as they are gonna have 32 regardless. That's severely flawed. Its pretty obvious that some years are stronger or weaker than others. Having a cap on what you consider elite players regardless of actual eval is just asinine IMO. To me its purely business driven and not fact or accuracy driven. If a given year only has 18 kids considered elite then rank them that way. If there happen to he 46 another year then adjust it that way. Its just stupid to me but I'm pretty sure others think differently and that's what makes it fun. Elite is one of those words overused and watered down just like great. Analysts and announcers drive me nuts with their watered down use of the adjective great. There aren't that many great players or teams out there.
