Martin-Mickey-Simmons-Newman would be pretty nasty. We'd still be looking for a point guard, though.

I decided to just do my own research and Google it quickly but thanks

You listed him in Newman. The reason why we have such a great shot with him is because he wants to play PG and we have the biggest opening there

If Kentucky's entire first and second teams go pro,
probably not but one hell of a ride.

Ya know, I make no claims whatsoever to be capable of evaluating basketball coaching. (see my screen name) That said, JJ has managed to bring LSU back to the tourney and has gotten improving results each year.

I'm right there with you. The only issue with using "improving" as a metric is that it rarely takes into account the differences in scheduling.

Now, if LSU has played a progressively harder schedule in his 3 years, while improving the win total, then I'll agree they're improving. I'm sure someone will be in here shortly that can attest to strength of schedule over the last 3 years.

Martin has too much to lose if he came back. His ceiling is getting higher and if he was to struggle it would kill his stock but Mickey could only benefit. Mickey just needs to improve his shot and get better at guarding bigger players.

That's a stretch. It's takes a cpl years to build depth. Top 25 team tho

But humor me in my hypothetical.

How many teams have been within 1 point of Kentucky?

The team is frustrating precisely because they are so young.

A 2016 team with just a little more depth and a little more experience is a SEC Champ/Round of 8 team - AT A MINIMUM. Anything beyond that requires divine providence, anyway. So, I'm partly there with your hypo.

I'll go so far to say this is a Sweet 16 with either of the bigs coming back.

you could be looking at a five of Newman, Blakeney, Simmons, Martin, Mickey.

Possible. I think it's more likely we see TQ, Hornsby, Simmons, Martin and Mickey in the everybody's back scenario. A second unit of Newman, Blakeney, Patterson, Victor and whoever's the most improved big would provide a supercharged offensive burst off of the bench. You could also see Gray drastically improved in his second year in JJ's system and he would fit in nicely in the second unit should Newman go elsewhere. Helluva lot of talent either way. Both JM's plus Newman probably = top 8 preseason. Only on JM and Newman = top 10; same with both JM's and no Newman. Only one of the three = top 18 and none of the three = top 25; IMO.

Vegas is looking for you. There is no guarantee we make the field. You need to make hay when the opportunity is there. We didn't.

Being one and done this year has nothing to do with next year.

If both back and we land Malik Newman to close out recruiting we'll be a preseason top 5-10 team
