Yesterday, I was kayak fishing on a lake northwest of Atlanta. There were very few boats on the water. The first cove I came to had a pontoon boat anchored in the opening. I entered close to the shore, never coming within 40 yards of their boat, fished the back of the cove and when I came back out the we're gone. Later in the day, I entered another cove. When I came around a point the same pontoon boat was anchored in the back of the cove. I fished the point I was on and then paddled to opposite side of cove never getting within 40 to 50 yards of them. When I started fishing the opposite side he started yelling at me and threatening to throw rocks at me. Was I in the wrong?

Doesn't seem you did anything wrong, maybe he was drunk?

I would let him throw rocks then get the hull numbers and file assault charges...

Prefishing Check List:
Tackle
Lines
Beer
Rocks

People can be weird about that stuff. I don't think you were wrong but he likely felt he had dibs on the cove since he was there first.

doesn't sound like you did anything wrong, just someone having a shitty day
I'm also pretty sure that if someone throws rock at me while i'm in a yak neither party is fishing long

Always fish with a shoulder holster...

You'll find it makes people like that much more polite.

Don't know why, but the "rocks" comment made me lol, and I had freakin grape juice in my mouth.

Hey y'all, answer me this......

Have anyone ever hit another boat with a lure that ventured a little too close, or been hit with a lure thrown from another boat because you came a little too close?

I have never been in either situation, but I'm kinda laid back/non confrontational on stuff like that. Dang, I have some friends though...jeez.......one guy in particular, he can get by God mad at folks that get up in his space. I feel sure some of you hot heads around here have launched the ol' lead weighted popping cork missile before, haven't y'all/fess up?

The fact that he would have rocks on his boat is the funniest thing to me.

I open carry when on the water or in the woods and try to keep away from other people.

This was my first thought too. Why do you have rocks in your boat? Sometimes that is annoying when your fishing but it seems like you kept a good distance from him. But he does not own the water.

I wouldn't worry about it. People that anchor out in the middle of a canal/opening when there is fishing area to be had behind them should expect to be passed by. I had this same problem a month or so ago in the spillway. Some asshat anchored off in the middle of the area I was trolling in (i got out there long before they did) about 150 yards from the end of the cut we were in. I went all the way to the bank to go around him and I hear him talking shite under his breath to his buddy. I asked quite nicely twice if I was bothering them but he never responded directly to me, just mumbling to his buddy to where I could hear. If you got the nuts to attempt to block off several people from fishing the area you were late getting to, at least have the nuts to back it up when asked about it.

A boat does not get to anchor at the mouth of a cove and close the entire cove.

I don't know if the op was at Lake Allatoona but there is so much boat traffic on that lake many otherwise normal fishermen have become territorial.

I was on Lake Allatoona but yesterday was really light as far as boat traffic goes.

an etiquette question involving a kayak and a pontoon boat. I really don't think they have the book written on that one yet.

It sounds to me like you were just fine.

buddy and me were casted at once by a guy that came too close to us - go figure that one out. my buddy is a REAL bar room terror but let it go till he saw the guy back at the launch and asked "wtf?". guy who casted at us popped off with a smartass answer and then got THE EVER LIVING shite beat out of him.
