The rest of the bball team needs to take a page out of Hornsby's book.

They need to stay over 2 hours after practice next year (like Hornsby do) and shoot 100 freethrows a piece. They've struggled with freethrows all year and I knew it would come back and bite them in the arse when it counted the most.

You keep posting this like it shows that we are a good free throw shooting team. We are ranked 183 (I think) in FT%. To give you an idea, Hornsby shot 92% two years ago at UNC Asheville. This year he shot nearly 16% worse.

ETA: we are 204th after last night.

I don't have time to go look but I can't remember making both free throws on a technical or flag. foul this year. Even Hornsby usually missed the first one

It was mentioned all year when they played. All the players say the same.

Ummm.... I hate to say it, but if Hornsby had just his average game yesterday, we win easily. He might have a fantastic work ethic towards practice, but whatever his approach was going into last night's game, it didn't work.

edit- I'll go further here. Mickey played very hard, and put up great numbers on both ends. Martin went off and had a great game. Quarterman absolutely dominated stretches of the game, and put up some very nice stats. Patterson hit some big 3's, and Gray provided a great spark and set the tempo in spurts.

There's one player missing.

This hasn't been said enough. Hornsby should have had the ball more. But we didn't know then that we would miss our next 12 shots and free throws and lose at the end. Hind sight is 20/20. I wish he would have shot more. Last night Martin and Quarterman had good games and I wouldn't mind the ball in their hands every possession. And of course Hornsby bc he's been our most consistent player all year. He seemed to not play his normal role last night. Ended a streak of double digit points for him. Dems the breaks.

If your going to blame a specific player which i never condone doing. How in the blind bat shite are you going to blame Hornsby? Hornsby didnt go tarzan and just throw the ball up at the hoop. Horsnby didnt miss 5 free throws in a row. Horsnby didnt miss the point blank lay up to seal the win or practically seal the win when the shot clock was off. Mickey collapse+ Quarterman missed free throws was the game killer despite missing our last ten shots we could still have won the game via my equation. Horsnby had nothing to do with it.

not doing that, but instead responding to those who are slaughtering Mickey

Oh really? He went 3 for 9, and that includes a 3 pointer so off it went in off the backboard. He tossed up some runners that looked like prayers. 2-4 from the FT line, too (and he wasn't demanding the ball late in order to draw fouls and get to the line, once the others missed some). This, in 36 minutes.

That's 8 pts, should have been 5 if you're honest on the 3 pt shot, from a guy you expect a steady 14 from, with the real possibility of 20. He had been averaging close to 20 over the last 4 previous games.

We get a generic Hornsby game, and we win easily, despite everything else that happened.

Look at these events in order from the end of the second half and explain to me how its Horsnbys game that could have sealed it. Your the only one thats had this logic, the only one.
