Setting up an LLC for independent contract work. It all seems pretty straight forward but wondering if y'all had any advice from personal experiences about the process.

Thanks!

It takes like 3.7 minutes. There's not much to it.

It is "easy" to do it online.

However, hire an attorney or at least a CPA to handle it for you. I have so many people that screw up that "easy" filing that then have to pay me to try to fix what they did.

Are those people able to function in the world? What could they possibly get wrong?

Fill out a few forms, send it in, get your LLC.

Am I missing something with this process?

It's very simply from my experience.

In my experience the EIN is usually the filing that is incorrect.

There can be some instances where the person who owns an LLC may want to keep their identity out of the public database where any person can see it. In some states this is possible and some it is not, this can be useful if you have a job and you're looking to do consulting on the side.

I have seen this too.

The main point is that the Sec of State's office will not necessarily review your docs for accuracy. Also, they have no online Operating Agreements which is the most important document for LLC startup when dealing with more than one member.
