Can anyone suggest what type hardware I need. Spain is 220 and of course US is 110. Want to take a lap top and phone charger.
Google search further adds to the confusion.

But travel plug adapters do not change the voltage, so the electricity coming through the adapter will still be the same 220-240 volts the socket is supplying. North American sockets supply electricity at between 110 and 120 volts, far lower than in most of the rest of the world. Consequently, North American appliances are generally built for 110-120 volts.
But that doesn't mean that your specific appliance isn't already compatible with the higher voltage -- it may very well be.

This is quite true but you won't (shouldn't) need to change the voltage for your phone or laptop charger. If you look at the phone plug or laptop charger brick, it will state the acceptable input voltage range. That range should be up to 240V.

I'd add one thing.
Find a small power strip that can handle the ranges. That way you have more than one thing that can charge at a time.
Plug adapter > strip > multiple devices.
I believe this one should work or similar

AND, I highly recommend you throw a couple of 6' or so household extension cords in your luggage. I have traveled outside the US quite a bit and found that most "foreign" hotels are very limited on the number of receptacles in the room. Have stayed at a couple that one had one and I needed the extension cord to be able reach from the recpt to what I needed to run.
Have gotten into the habit of bringing one to domestic hotels now as well.
