Bought a 2013 Ford FX4 in January. They only had 1 key. I'm looking into getting a spare key but everything I look into about programming a key says I need 2 keys to program another. Anyone have any suggestions, options, hints? Links to the key and/or programming help?

are you sure it is actually a key with a chip in it?...I thought that for nearly a decade about my truck and recently realized that I could have a key cut at the wal mart for about $5 that worked just fine....

Pretty sure the newer f150 keys are the remote/push start key deal where it just has to be in range. Those things are like 200+ a pop at the dealership

Probably will have to go to a dealer. Probably not cheap either.

No this truck is a newer truck but it isn't a push to start key. It's still an actual key that you have to put in and turn to start

Look up your local locksmith/lock and key shop. They may have to order but they are waaaaay cheaper than a dealership. Did this myself

Those can still have a chip in them. My 04 Silverado doesn't, but my 05 Tahoe did.

You can go to Lowes or HD and they have a machine that checks for a chip

You shouldn't need that. In fact they should be able to look up your key code and key fob programming just by the vin. I could be wrong but that is how it is in the heavy truck market and I can't imagine that technology being more sophisticated than regular size vehicles.

Pretty sure the dealer will have to do it

Once you have the second key, you should buy and program a 3rd so if you lose one, you'll always have the 2

I just had to buy two Nissan Intelligent Keys which at the dealer are about $450 apiece. I had a locksmith do two of them for that price.

I cant stand all this "modern" crap on vehicles. I went through 10 different kinds of bullshite with my truck radio a few months ago bc of some damn anti theft feature gm vehicles have.
