Are they entitled to any type of benefit or subsidy from the state?

Long story, short: my wife's ex-husband is likely going away for quite a while. This is new territory for me, so please forgive me if this question is absurd or completely unreasonable. I know there are several posters on here and I've seen a ton of different situations on this board, which is why I'm posting this, to see if any others have had to deal with this type of thing.

Please refrain from posting comments that don't address the question or add substantial information to the thread, just for the sake of boosting your post count.

TIA

Someone from the LP or North Baton Rouge would give you the best answers to your questions.

Stanby, PEEJ will be here shortly.

to answer your question, I know of no payments that are made simply due to the fact that a parent is incarcerated...the only thing I could think of would be if the incarceration of the parent caused a drop in family income that would result in the children becoming eligible for welfare or food stamps, etc....

But I am actually interested if anyone has any legit information on this subject. Seems like an interesting topic.

If the ex was on child support, the state will pick that up and continue the payments until he is released or the child becomes of age, whichever comes first
