For those unfamiliar with Numberfire, it's an analytics/Fantasy football site. Nothing ground breaking, but it helps give confidence, along with Payton's remarks on Hill prior to the Graham trade, that he can be our #1 TE. We'll still need to add a 3rd TE, but I think we can scratch off Maxx Williams or any other early TE in the draft. Maybe they'll keep Lorig is the 3rd TE/FB, and keep Austin Johnson on the team since he's earned it.

I know Austin Johnson is nothing special, but I definitely think he's worthy of a chance to be on the active roster.

He looked a lot better than Lorig last year. He definitely deserves a spot.

Well I think this really puts the pressure back on the WR corps like it was in 2010 and in previous seasons to pick up the lions share of the passing yards and TDs. Is Josh Hill and Ben Watson a competent TE corps? Absolutely, they'll pick up the short/intermediate yards from check-downs and some designed plays, but you won't see those designed plays to get a tight-end (previously, Graham) the ball by virtue of mismatches and seams. You'll probably see a lot more plays to the tight end from hard play-action or maybe some designed screen plays, in addition to the traditional check-downs.

I am in the camp that considered Graham more of a possession wide receiver anyway. I am not discounting his abilities at all, he's probably one of the best targets in the NFL if you consider his athleticism, versatility (at playing TE/WR), and coordination in hauling in passes. We simply have to replace his yards and touchdowns in the WR corps. It's simple, yet so difficult to do in one season (especially when you also pick to replace your most productive WR in the same season). Hopefully Toon continues to progress from last year (he looked pretty good towards the end of the season) and we pick up some good, young talent in the draft. You also have to consider CJ Spiller's possible contribution. If he remains healthy, he'll provide a nice chunk of the total receiving yards for next year.

Josh Hill & Ben Watson should be more than enough at TE & they can always put Austin Johnson over there

I actually see a breakout year for Hill imo. Like top 5 tight end numbers if he stays healthy.

It's numberFire, not SportsFire.

But yes I'm confident Hill can come in and be a competent replacement at TE. And I never understood the Maxx Williams hype for us. Why would we take an alright TE in a super weak TE class with the pick we got for giving up our All-Pro TE? I understand there's money involved but that pick will and was to be used to either bolster our defense or offensive line from the get go.

I think Johnson looked really good before his injury last season.

It's Lorig who sucked.

They did a pretty good job last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if we took a TE in this draft. Wes Saxton out of South Alabama ran the fastest 40 in the draft. Looks to be a 5th Round pick. I also think Rory Anderson from USCe might be a late round pick.

i think hill can do a good job. one of the best things about graham being gone is that drew will actually go through his reads and not lock on graham

I agree.

I said last year before we signed Jimmy back that we didn't NEED him.

We had just watched Seattle and their dominating defense score FG's & pick 6's until the score was 28-0 at halftime over arguably the greatest offensive team of all-time in Denver, and the casual fan would be hard-pressed to name a WR or TE for Seattle.

In 2011, we watched mediocre Alex Smith & a great SF Defense force the greatest Saints offensive team ever to the sidelines.

In 2007, we watched 18-0 Patriots led by Brady & Moss get sent home with nothing by the Giants' great front four. So impressed, we hired Spagnola eventually.

Point is, defense wins championships. As long as the offense moves the chains, it doesn't have to be pretty.

Exactly!! Thought I was alone in thinking Drew relied on him way too much, it made our offense predictable when he was in the game.

Josh Hill can be an elite TE, reminds me of Greg Olsen.
