Headphones wont work in my HTC One M8 anymore

So I tried to plug my earbuds into my phone yesterday and they wouldn't work. Friend of mine came over later that evening and I tried her headphones and they worked in my phone. My headphones worked in her phone. What's the deal? suggestions?

Happened to me one time. Ended up being a dirty contact. Blow it out with canned air. I used a pipe washer with some alcohol on it to clean mine off too.

Do the two sets of headphones have the same number of conductors or rings on the male prong? As in, does one set have a mic and the other doesn't?

Paperclip to clean out the lint from the hole. There's no other possible cause.
