Saw some posts in the game thread that made me want to point out that the game is a lot more difficult than most realize.

While I will agree that it is a lot more difficult than a lot of guys want to think it is, softball tends to have ridiculously high batting averages when compared to baseball. Maybe that has to do with the slapping and infield timing issues, though.

This was definitely not the case for our team last year.

I know that it's pointless to say that softball is harder than baseball buy getting a softball player to pitch to a baseball player.
I mean they even said it in the video...the angle of the pitch is completely opposite.
The sports are just completely different to do a side by side comparison.

What does that prove? The balls are different sizes and weights and are pitched from different distances.

I never said it was harder than baseball or trying to compare the 2. Just trying to give a little insight to the game.

Those high batting averages are usually for slappers, but maybe the girls just hit better than the guys.

Didn't Brittany Sneed strike out Wally Pontiff?

it's always misleading when you bring a baseball guy in to hit a softball pitcher and use that as evidence softball is more difficult, like sports science did. give that baseball player time to practice hitting against that arm slot and pitch angle and their test results look completely different. not to mention they used arguably the best softball pitcher in the world at the time against a minor league baseball prospect.

I admittedly didn't read the thread, but having a softball pitcher pitch to a baseball player is not a good way to "compare" the sports.
Softball is not an easy sport, and the reaction time for hitters has to be insane fast, which is why there are so many Ks.
That being said when you look at the better players in college baseball and softball and compare their stats, it's easy to conclude that softball is an easier game to dominate than baseball
Here are the top 10 D1 softball batting averages as of March 12
RANK NAME TEAM BA
1 Madison Lerma Fairleigh Dickinson .833
2 Elena Bowman Manhattan .778
3 Courtney Slye Fairleigh Dickinson .750
4 Savannah Young Holy Cross .667
- Madelaine Wilen Fairleigh Dickinson .667
6 Karlie Mellott Cornell .600
7 Tiffany Howard Auburn .563
- Vanessa Gomez UMES .563
9 Megan Przeslawski Norfolk St. .556
10 Allexis Bennett UCLA .550
Here are the top 10 D1 baseball averages
RANK NAME TEAM BA
1 Harrison White Yale .533
2 Aaron Novak Penn St. .531
3 Michael Foster Northeastern .500
- Casey Hughston Alabama .500
5 Ian Happ Cincinnati .490
6 Logan Landon Tex.-Pan American .489
7 Matt Honchel Miami (OH) .488
8 Will Craig Wake Forest .484
9 Trey York East Tenn. St. .480
10 Jackson Glines Michigan .479
So the #1 baseball average isn't as high as the #10 softball average, and the top softball average is .300 higher than the baseball one.
It's easy to see which one is easier to master based on those stats

Why didn't they bring in a male softball player for her to pitch to? Because they wanted the outcome to be what it was.

That's where objective or tester bias kicks in.

They also have ridiculously low ERA's as well

This is a good point, I wonder why it is that so many hitters have crazy high .BA's and so many pitchers have crazy low ERA's?
Maybe there aren't a lot of elite pitchers so good hitters rack up stats on inferior pitching?
Or maybe there aren't a lot of elite hitters so good pitchers dominate inferior opponents?
Also, since the K rate is so high maybe it's that while people get hits, teams struggle to string together rallies because they don't put the ball in play a ton?
I'm speculating by the way bc I don't have insight on it

I think this has a few causes. There are a lot of strikeouts, and it seems difficult for teams to string together hits sometimes. But I think the biggest cause of these low numbers is errors which goes back to the small size of the infield and everything that goes with that (balls off the glove on the hot corner, bad throws, etc.).

That's nuts. I wonder what the cause of this is. Team hasn't played much due to weather?
