It'll take until the 20th to download.

Your code doesn't work
---edit---
I found a code from PAX and this shite isn't free, you have to buy a ship even though it's supposed to give you a free one. Their site and advertising is confusing as shite, they raised 75 million and they fail with me when getting in the game is probably harder than playing the fricking game. 20 gig "free" weekend, but the game is supposed to be 100 gigs at completion.
----2nd edit-----
You can download the game but the download screen makes you think that buying a ship is required, shady company is shady. You have to pick like three different names to sign up login name, screen name, and handle or some shite like that. Yeah I am hating on a game I haven't even been able to play yet, but the sign up process is not user friendly and that is the intro to the game.
-----edit 3-----
Finally got in the game and this is the keyboard layout, it's worse than the BF series.
I will not be playing this game.

It's actually not that awful when you're actually playing, and I had fun with it, but that pricing model is pretty wonky
$45 is the lowest priced ship and they go up to like $30,000
Not to mention there's only two game modes in this alpha, one of which is just flying around, and one sim with drones. No multi to test things out?
ETA: And that layout is missing the 8 NUMPAD numbers to control your shields

Yeah, I don't want my games to be work, I am not a Korean super gamer.

You should be able to play with other players in vandul swarm. the FPS was supposed to be released when these promotions came out but it was held back for some polishing. You can edit key bindings pretty easily to put your shields on your num pad. I'm still pretty nub at combat flyers but i have things like switch targets and focus reticle mapped to my mouse.
The thing about them having raised $75 milion is it keeps companies from sticking their nose in, messing up and changing the game to the way they want, releasing stuff before its ready. If not for the backers this game would be some super promoted Firaxis/Activision/Bioware/whoever else title, already ready to release instead of still being alpha, and you would have had a buggy arse FPS to play this week.
Another thing about them having 75 mil is... they didn't HAVE to do this, Chris Roberts doesn't need your money, RSI already has more than they need to complete the project, all of these things, even the ones that are " backer only" are things that they really go out of their way to provide, and if anything slow the development down just to make us happy.
What do you mean by this? this isn't going to be a work sim like Elite:: Dangerous where you have to sit at your desk and watch your ship fly and do nothing for hours just to make a little in game cash. Also, the persistent universe is only one aspect of the game. you still have the Story/campaign in Squadron 42, which will be released before the rest of the game, and the planetside/FPS aspect of the game. Theres literally something for everyone.
Look, I'm not here as a salesman, just a fan of this and I'm not even good at the game. I cant even race right now without crashing all over the damned place. but spending $45 on a game with this level of graphics and content, which gets you THE GAME ITSELF WHEN IT LAUNCHES, along with access while it remains in development. If you all could pay $45 to get early access and a paid copy of the next Call of Duty, you'd shite yourselves rushing to the website to sign up. Take it for what it is. They didn't do this free fly week because they need more backer money, it's more of a hey come check out this cool shite we're doing over here.

You don't know me, I bang on CoD all the time for the shitty campaings AW was the best one though. I don't want to have to learn 35 keys to play a damn game that shite is like working to play.

I can see what you mean, but really you would only really need to know every key, where its mapped, and what it does, if you were intentionally going out looking for a dogfight and wound up fighting someone else whos in an equal or better ship that actually does know wtf they're doing. really it will coem naturally over time the more you play, assuming you even go the pirating/escort route.
I myself spent $300 on the massive mining ship. it holds 10 people and is supposed to have all these gizmos and gadgets to help me scan the universe, find minerals, get there fast, extract the shite, refine it on board, and store it on the outside. It will probably take me a month to learn how to use the damned thing but once I do will be totally worth it. TBH I only bought it because buying when it was announced gave it a huge discount and lifetime insurance. On the one hand it will take a lot of " work" to learn how to use it. But on the other... I probably saved myself months worth of other work that it would take to save up enough in game cash to buy the ship. On top of that, all the extra money I will be making in game because i have this kick arse " does all the work for you" ship will allow me to stockpile cash a lot faster and buy the other ships I want instead of pledging to get them now.

The game looks like it would be fun and I am glad you like it, but I will not play it. The minute I found out sign up process trying to trick you into buying something you didn't have to buy I was out. For me this game has too many strikes against it.

I am very interested in this but the sxsw code and the pax one dont work. I would even be willing to pay up right now but i am somewhat confused. If I buy a package, it says "beta access" but the game is currently in alpha. Does that mean that if I paid right now I wouldn't get to play?
ETA: just realized i had a space on the end of the code. downloading now.

Jesus christ.
Shady sign-up process aside, this game sounds far too involved for my taste.
And this:

Sounds pay-to-win as frick, or at the very least, pay-to-enjoy.
But to be fair, this type of game has a distinct player base, and it's far removed from the shallower-by-comparison games I have time to play. It is not for casuals like me and DoUrden.
Rest assured, more than one Korean will die playing this game.

hah. well once the game launches you wont be able to buy ships with real cash. you will be able to buy in game cash, I believe its once a month and only for a set ammount, based on how much you " would have earned" had you played every day. for instance once a month you will be able to buy X ammmount of in game cash if you choose. This is so casual players can keep up with nerds like me that play 5 hours a day. Its intended i guess to be more like pay to keep up.
As far as the pledging now goes, The first 2 packages come with access to Arena Commander, which is everything that's out right now. If you buy a package without it its only $5 to buy it individually. When the FPS module comes out later this month it may be extra or may come with the AC access, not 100% sure. Glad you got your code to work, hope you like it.
ETA:: brand new trailer/montage

I am still a bit confused
There has to be a deep dive somewhere to know what type of "industry" you are signing up for. $300 is a bit much for a shot in the dark on if you would like the mining aspect. EVE has been doing it for quite a long time and people know what they are getting into with that. So this is pretty much "I think it would be cool to have a ship with these spec's" and hope that you actually enjoy it?
Can you resell your ship at a later date for in game currency or something? How many modules will there be and you have to most likely spend for each individual one or they will be a part of the full game? Will you own the full game for spending $300 on the ship that you did?
Posted on 3/16/15 at 7:25 pm to MCSquared16
More complicated isn't the answer with all these space sims. Give us another Freelancer. Easy to pick up and play but tons of fun to master.
Darkstar One was the closest we've had to that game.

You can scrap it for in game currency to buy other ships with, or gift it to someone ( sell it).
Just take a look at the packages in the store and it shows you that you get access to the full game which includes ::
Squadron 42:: the single player campaign series, which will be releasing the first episode at the end of the year.
Star citizen digital download- which is the MMO itself, persistent universe, planetside and FPS modules.
The $45 packages also include Arena commander access and 3 months of insurance on whatever ship you get, so you don't have to worry about getting blown up and being too broke to buy something new.
There is a mini game on the website for the mining. i spent literally 4 hours just doing it for shits and gigs the other night, kept going even after i beat it. As i said earlier i decided that rather than spend $100 on this ship and $100 on that one, i figure with a little " work" i will be able to easily make enough in game money with the Orion to pay for itself in a couple of weeks, and then have more than enough to buy 3 or 4 ships. the lifetime insurance that came with it just made it even better. i am hoping that eventually I will be able to loan my ship out to broke newbies for a % of the profit while i go fly around and vandalize others. there's also a MASSIVE ship that's designed just for scavenging and getting good shite out of wreckage that interests me.

Well you still have plenty of time to save up and start building. just make sure you get at least 3G of VRAM to get an even better experience.
The release of 1.1 which was supposed to come out this past wed. was pushed back to this week to work on manual take offs and landings a little more. It includes multiplayer free flight so people can work on their formations and flying together, a few new ships available to fly, and the take off/landing.
the next update due around easter, 1.2 will have " Star Marine" which is the FPS module. Chris Roberts said he is challenging his guys to do a whole lot of polishing to make character movements and interactions look a better and he wants it to look better than anything else out there. We will see. just happy I will have a new FPS
