Going to pull the trigger on a circular saw today. What other tools are necessary for a woodworking beginner?

I have absolutely nothing. Just looking to make some beginner stuff from youtube videos. So tools that can be used for a variety of purposes would be awesome

There were many different tools listed in that thread. I'm just looking for beginner essentials. Stuff you use for just about every project.

Sorry to upset you!!!!!!!!!

Well you have to have a decent cordless drill and a bit kit.

GOOD Tape Measure
Square
Level
Clamps (I like the vise like C Clamps personally)

And if it's furniture that you're starting with, a Kreg Jig is a must. Kreg JR at home depot will work, and it's only $20. But you'll have to have the clamps to use it.

What do you plan on building? Basic set that can do trim work vs one that can do decks vs one for cabinetry are not the same. Don't know what circular saw you are getting but Makita makes superb ones. Look for 13A instead of 15A model. That said the most useful will be:

Jobsite-style 10" tablesaw
12" double-bevel miter saw
plunge router
belt sander
orbital palm sander
18-ga, 15-ga nailguns
good chisels
framing square
speed square
1/8" nailset
Set of prybars
Good straight (ripping) claw hammer
end nippers to pull nails
Torpedo, 24", 48" levels (quality matters)
Chalk line
good basic Stanley 25' tape measure, forget about those gimmicky FatMax or Extreme models.
can't have enough c-clamps, bar clamps, speed clamps, etc.
Good drill/impact driver kit and lots of bits for them.
Good carpenters tool belt setup with a seperate hammer loop.

Just trying to give you some info. Most of that was beginner stuff.

I have been woodworking almost two years now and I consider myself a beginner even though we sell our stuff now. I usually do reclaimed pieces. You could start with that. I use pallets and old fence boards to make tables, benches, wine racks, signs, etc.

I few things I can't live without is:

a good sander
miter saw
brad nail gun
impact drill

A few things I am glad I have that you don't need right away:
kreg jig
jig saw
drill press

It is but you'll be able to tackle a lot of carpentry projects. 15A Makita will do great, the 13A is a bit lighter and the smooth base plate makes it easier to freehand rip but probably not something you'll be doing anyway.

This for sure. There is nothing that pissing me off more than a sucky tape measure.

I've been watching videos all morning so this is perfect timing. Check out DIY Pete for some pretty cool stuff. I'm actually working on a cool patio bench and bar cart from his site.

On the topic of tools:

Good drill
Speed square
Level

And then your circular saw and you can do a lot of things.

ana-white.com - The plans typically tell you which tools you'll need. Don't go buy anything until you need it.

Exactly what I plan on doing

Best way to get pallets?
