Anyone know how this is going to break down?

How many can they offer each year?

With only Odo leaving as a senior If Mickey/Martin return (highly unlikely) will they have to pull scholarships from someone to fit Simmons, Blakney, and possibly Newman?

Just a hunch, but if Newman signs and wants to play PG IMO Grey transfers. He may anyway, with the way Patterson is playing I can’t see Grey logging big minutes over J-Pat.

Anyway, Thoughts?

They will make it work
Do you think Robinson might be thinking about transferring with his playing time this year?

I don't think Gray can transfer since he would be a senior next season. I'm not too sure how all that works though.

Currently 11 scholarship players on roster (12 if you count Victor). So with Odo, leaving, that gets you to 11 (with 2 open schollies) which will be filled by Simmons and Blakeney. If Martin and/or Mickey leave that obviously provides cushion if Newman signs. We should be fine and won't be surprised if somebody transfers. Don't want it to happen but seems to be all the rage now.

I'd have no reason to think that. It's my understanding that He and the coaching staff knew it would take time for him to develop. Coach has said on several occasions the they like his progress, and he's getting better.

I don't think Gray would transfer, although a backcourt rotation of Newman, Blakeney, Keith, TQ, Gray and Patterson would be deep, they could all play. A 10 man rotation certainly isn't unheard of.

We'll be fine. No one will need to transfer

You are able to have 13 scholarships at one time. We currently have 11. So with Odo that means they have 3 available without anyone leaving for any reason. Those 3 are already taken by Simmons, Blakney and Vincent who is transferring in.

Assuming Martin doesn't return, which seems highly probable, then we have a scholarship for Newman without anyone else having to leave. That doesn't mean that we won't have some transfers but we don't have to have them given the scenario above.

Wait your are talking about Elbert right? I forget Antonio Robinson Senior transfer is on the roster. Of course he's a senior so you're probably not talking about him. lol

He has only played in three years. H has five years to play four seasons.

Even if he had no such options he could transfer to a lower division school and play right away. Hope he stays and they figure it out.

It's awesome the think after so many dark years that we are now fitting all this talent on one team.

During the Kentucky game LSU got some major props from Dick Vitale on their talent. Said with the addition of Simmons if Martin and/or Mickey came back LSU was instant top 10. and that was before Blakney, Victor and maybe Newman.

Me too. I like him off the bench. His motor could wear some teams down, especially if he has a 2nd unit with some other scoring options.

Gray and Patterson both had great games against Hogs. However they are different players...Gray is a true point guard who penetrates and Patterson is a shooter...more of a second guard in my mind. Gray is finally figuring out his role..possibly good things ahead...had several great assists against Hogs. Patterson is a shooting guard like Hornsby, but smaller and not much of a jumper.

TQ and Gray have similar games on offense despite the size differential.

Penetration rank: Gray, TQ, Hornsby, Patterson.
Shooting rank: Patterson/ Hornsby...TQ/ Gray.
Rebounding rank: TQ, Hornsby, Gray/ Patterson

While I agree that Patterson is more consistent than Gray, Gray has tremendous upside when he plays well. He's the best player on the team at breaking down the other team's defense. While he hasn't done this with any consistency this season, his performance against Arkansas demonstrates he is capable of doing so. He's the x-factor for the team this year imo. If he plays well, I think that we can play and beat anyone. If he's off, we can still be very good, but we better hope that we can knock down shots from outside because I don't think anyone else can get in the lane and open it up for others like he can against a great defense.
